When your kid tests for TOPs/HOPES are they judged/scored by their coaches?
Our gym recently did testing and our coaches scored the girls. There were maybe 5 other girls testing that were not from the gym. Is that not a conflict of interest?
When DD tested at her previous gym 3 seasons ago...
I sat here for a bit coming up with excuse after excuse as to why my kid is still a level 6. There is no excuse it’s freaking insane. Even with foot fracture after foot fracture.
She wasn’t even given the option to level up when we came to the new gym. Zero work on any bar but strap bar for...
DD has been in a continual growth spurt for 3 years. It has been so hard on her physically and mentally. She sees her teammates leveling up and she’s just trying to regain her skills. She’s 5’5” at 11 and repeating level 6 (for the 3rd season. ). She just can’t seem to trust herself, she’s only...
Depends
We have 2 training groups.
Seems the morning group typically get to train the skill far sooner than the night girls in the same age/level. Morning level 6/7 are training them into the pit at 7-14 yrs old.
A few of our 7/8 at night are training them into the pit and those girls are...
DD was always the tallest in her training group. Her coach made her use the lower bar setting. It was frustrating to watch, but 3 years later she is a better gymnast because of it.
She’s still the tallest and has struggled on bars off and on for years due to growth spurts. She does a lot of...
Thank you for the replies.
Tuesday I took DD to a gym that she had tried out for last year ( they said she was a beautiful gymnast, but she was not a good fit). Well this year they offered her a spot. It is the best program in the area. DD is not looking for amazing scores or even huge skills...
DD did xcel silver at 7 and xcel gold at 8. She tested out of level 4 3 weeks after her state meet and level 5 the following week with her highest scores ever and on to 6. If she has great basics and form, she will be just fine. I wish we would have done compulsories, really only level 5 for a...
Her Dr. said she isn't done growing. He said about 3 more years. She's pretty devastated. I love her height. I know it isn't ideal, she's 5'3" and 98lbs at this age. She is really only struggling on bars and vault.
Anyone have any success stories? Some words of wisdom?
I did think that maybe with the change in gyms and the positive work environment after struggling the previous season with her new height and weight, she would just have to stay uninjured and compete well like she always has. The coaches promised a plan. The plan ended up being a one size fits...
DD just turned 11. This is her 4th yr competing (xcel silver, xcel gold, Level 6 x2). She was a second yr level 6 this season. She is a solid middle of the pack. She is a beautiful gymnast capable of so much, but with huge growth spurts, broken foot, heel fractures and severs the past 2 seasons...
DD is one that a BHS is way easier for her. When her heel flairs up she will do BWO, but prefers the BHS on beam. She also prefers BHS BHS on beam to BWO BHS. I always find it odd, but I'm glad she works them both. I'm sure it will change up every once on a while.
That is awesome that she has progressed so quickly.
We had a girl with amazing skills and she was able to get stuff so quickly, but she was missing so many little things. She has her giants, but her clear hips were not where they needed to be and she could be extremely inconsistent on both...
