    Rebecca Bross Injury

Her injury broke my heart. I think hearing her cry out in pain was the worst. I wish her a speedy recovery, and hope this injury doesn't become career ending.

    Parents DD spine fracture update

Hi Sydsmom, Both of my daughters quit gymnastics recently, so I know how you feel. It was way harder for me than it was for them. What I learned is that they want to try new things. My oldest now LOVES high school cheerleading, and my youngest has just taken up hip-hop dancing. They still...

    Press Handstand Mounts

Quite a few girls at the gym my girls go to do it, but you're right, not as many elites do it. I think Alicia Sacramone's mount is the hardest. Do you agree?

Parents Maybe we need a little roll call

Welcome Newbies, My DD is 14 years old, and just quit the sport in the spring. She had been training L7, but broke her foot 1 week before the season started, so never competed. She did compete at two pre-season meets as a L7. She is now doing high school cheer! My other DD is 12 years old...

    WAG Cover Girl Classic

Just loved watching the meet on Universal Sports. Anyone know why Mattie Larson didn't compete? My favorite part was when they showed Sophina DeJesus compete on beam. Even though my DD quit the sport, she loved seeing her former teammate on TV.

Um, what year were vocals allowed for floor music?

I was wondering about that too. Good question.

Parents My DD got a skill back after breaking her foot and quitting gymnastics

Hi All, Many of you know that my DD quit gymnastics last spring after suffering three broken bones in 1 year, and never being allowed to compete L7. Below is the skill she broke her foot on in January, a RO BHS Layout Full. Here she is doing it again, on the floor, landing in a pit that is...

    Skipping Level 7?

My DD's gym has some gymnasts who skip levels, or score out of them is a better way to say that. It has more to do with the skills they have than what the score was at the previous level. Regarding L7, we had two girls who scored out of it during the first meet at pre-season. Why? The first...

    Photographing Gymnastics

As a parent photographing my child, I have to say that the biggest advantage I had was that I knew my DD's routine really well. That way I could prepare the camera, and catch those leaps, jumps, and skills that were the most exciting. Good luck.

Parents Oh dear did I mess up big time.....

If I were you, I would just be honest with her. I would explain that you thought she automatically would be competing, but now you know that there is more to it than that. Like other said, explain what being a mature gymnast means, and if you are allowed to watch her practices, then afterward...

DD injured by coach a week from next comp...

Ouch, that sounds painful. I hope she has a quick recovery. Has the coach said she's sorry?

Parents Gymnast of the Year award

At our gym, they split the awards ceremony to boys, girls compulsory, and girls optional. At each level, all girls are given an award. Special awards are also given at each level, VIP, 110%, and Most Improved. Finally, an award is given as gymnast of the year, but again, there is one for boys...

Parents moving up from level 4?

This is an interesting thread. I can share with you my experience. My DD also taught herself the kip during open gym before she was level 4. During her time as a level 4, she would practice her kip, but once they started working on routines (around spring), then they stopped practicing the...

    Parents My DD made it!

Thank you all for your congratulations. She is so happy. Yesterday some school friends took her out for ice cream to celebrate. When she was at gym, she never had time to go out with her school friends. @Panda-girl's Mom, she is still taking a tumbling class. That has helped with her...
