In JO, when several girls on a team compete one or so L4 & L5 meets in the fall to score out. Then skip L6 and compete L7 in the Spring. So our L4s, who are used to placing well, are lucky to get a 4th or 5th place. They are competing against girls with L7 skills. On one hand, I do understand...

Great gymnastics! CAL won 1st place. My dds team was invited to do an exhibition before the meet. They had a blast: DD got her shirt and a poster signed by the women on CAL team. The girls were very excited and proud to mingle with the great gymnasts at the meet!

Wow, thank you all for the feedback ! Lots of food for thought, many good insights. RE: fear of skill(s): Seems it all really started with her fear of doing a BHS on high beam. She was in the L4/5 training group. She got it on low beam and I guess, "rang the bell" (gym recognition) for it...

Thanks. This is a great gym and those nearby are not acceptable. Maybe I should ask her again if she wants to try another place further out . However, I think her heart's not in it now.

Just a thought as a teacher of 7 year olds: I have my students explain the directions to a partner. They will focus on the instruction because they have to tell/show their classmate how.

I must add that coach is amazing with the kids in all other respects. Coach has brought them so far in a short time and is respected by all- kids, parents, and all other coaches :)
