Thanks John and she did end up qualifying for states at least! She actually won first on floor sticking her whip 1/2 punch layout the first time out! Talk about ups and downs! Literally!
Yes my level 8 recently scored a 5 on bars...a 5! She made her release move but couldn't complete an "easy" giant. She fell like 3 times. Then she left out a full turn on beam by accident. Got a 7 something. Plus her little crush came to watch! On to to the next one...
When my gymmie came back after 2 weeks off, she was super sore because it was a big conditioning day. Her skills were all fine but we still laugh about it because we went camping the next weekend and she couldn't even ride her bike and was walking like a cowboy. The next practice coach said...
Also remember when looking at levels that there was the Great Level Change that bumped the compulsory levels down. It is very likely that the level 10s you researched that competed level 3 started before the Change. Level 2 is now the equivalent of 3. I dont think level 1 even existed as a...
DD put a long piece of Duct tape on the floor as her beam. It REALLY helped. I don't think she would have made it to level 8 without it! Worth the investment :)
My duagnter who has always struggled with bars, got a shootover and double back at camp. Sbe said tbey are easy! She usually takes a while to get new skills but she picked tbem up very quickly. It is wonderful to see ber excited about bars for once!
Would doing the double back help at all? I'm thinking perhaps judges will be less harsh on the kip cast handstand. Also, is a cast handstand required? If not could a gymnast even get around doing it? My DD thinks I'm so dumb when I ask her this stuff!
Are shootovers and double back dismounts commonly competed at level 8? I ask because historically DD has struggled with bars, but she is doing those skills nicely without spots. No way can she do a pirouette because her kip casts are very sub par. Her free hip is improving and looks like it...
I have seen something like this as well while volunteering at a Regional meet. The judge asked me to write down the score. I don't think it was ever discussed though.
Mine likes hurdles. I guess running at stationary objects at full speed just suits her. Turns out she had natural form for it from the get go..Also snowboarding I can still smoke her at that! And it makes her so mad.
