Parents 2nd Meet of the Year.....the flu bug

Bummer! My entire family has been down this week with the flu. It's not fun. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

Parents The positive effects of gymnastics

That's great. Congratulations to your daughter. My daughter was also very outgoing in a recent show at church -and hubby and I attribute a lot of her confidence to what she's learned from gymnastics -and she has yet to compete.

Parents Beyond the Routine -how to view?

Is this only available on Gynmastike? I've seen the thread on boycotting this company but would love to watch Beyond the Routine. Any other way to view it?

Parents Higher JO hours in some areas than others?

I have noticed that JO programs in some other areas don't seem to train as many hours as they do where I live. Is it common for an area to have all gyms with high hours? Since these gyms compete against each other I guess it makes sense for them to all have the same hours -but I'm slightly...

Parents switch from xcel to JO?

I am trying to decide what would be best for DD (7). A little less than a year ago I moved her from rec to x cel pre team at a new gym further from our home. We love the gym and the program -it's really been great for her -but the drive is difficult for our family and the other kids. One of...

    Parents recommend a home beam?

Thanks for the reply. My daughter is pre team -soon to move up to x cel bronze. Curious -what is the advantage to a foam beam over the 8" beam with shortest legs at the beamstore -which is exactly what I'm now planning to get? Should we be going for the foam one since it sounds like it could...

    Parents recommend a home beam?

I am planning to get my daughter a beam for the holidays. Can anyone recommend one? I think I will wait on the bar but wondering if anyone has any opinions in bars at home? Safe? Concern about forming bad habits?

Parents I just want a straightforward answer about move to team!

Thanks for all of the responses. I finally got a bit of an answer -apparently she needs to be more consistent with her pullover and be more steady on beam if she's going to move up before the season. They would move her up as late as December (comp starts in late Jan/early Feb) -sounds like...

Parents I just want a straightforward answer about move to team!

DD(7) has been on pre team since Feb. In April or so I was told that she could most definitely move to team (xcel bronze) in the Fall and compete in the early part of next year (they compete Jan-March). I asked again in August or so and was told that there would be move-ups in Sept or Oct...

Parents Is years of gymnastics physically harmful?

Thanks for he replies. I guess what I'm really asking is how much is too much? There is a lot of research out there suggesting that even 10 hours at age 9 or 10 of ANY sport is too much physically. JO hours tend to be even higher than this. Is anyone concerned about this? There are even...

Parents Is years of gymnastics physically harmful?

There seem to be a lot of folks out there who believe that gymnastics can really harm a growing body. Of course it is very important that the coaches know what they are doing but is it possible that doing J.O. hours for so many years is harmful even with the best of coaches? I would love to...

Parents Has doing gymnastics helped with school..

I don't know yet -DD just turned 7. She's been on pre team for about 6 months. She is a good student and loves learning but that was the case before she started gymnastics too. I do hope that gymnastics will help her to be a good student as she gets older -I would say this is my greatest...

Parents How old was your child when you knew you had a gymnast?

ODD (7) began gymnastics at 5.5 -after months of begging to start. I signed her up not really expecting her to like it or be any good at it and she took off immediately and LOVED it immediately. She had previously tried a few other activities which she did not like for long. A year and a half...

    WAG Platinum anyone??

I don't know how many platinums there are at DD's gym but I do know that this is the first year that they have platinum there -so I'm guessing they don't have a ton.

    Parents Confession time- who's Dd's have extra Leo's? :)

Oh wow! This is amusing to me. My DD trains 2x per week (sometimes 3) and has 3 leos -of which she only wears two bc she finds one of them scratchy. She is getting one as her Halloween costume so that will make 4 (or 3 if you discount the one she doesn't wear). Maybe I will get her a few...

Parents What are your yearly gymnastics fees?

I have seen some threads on "how much for training hours" but not on the total price per year. We are just starting out and I've seen the list of team training fees but I don't know what to expect as far as meet fees and other team expenses in the first few years or later on for that matter...

WAG How does one qualify for states?

Does this differ or is there a standard bench mark needed to qualify? I know this is totally a newbie question!

Parents Still no pullover at 7? Will it ever come?

I can see why this philosophy works too -but it's not how it's done in her current gym. Do you have any advice to me as a parent who knows little about gymnastics in helping my DD get there? Thanks.
