Parents When do you say enough is enough?

Lots of good input has been given already. I've got nothing new to add other than to say that there are some parents (myself for one) who totally relate and understand the pain you are going through. It's hard to understand what it is like to have your gymmie suffer through an extended block...

    Parents Another thread about blocks

I'm so sorry you both are going through this. These mental blocks are the pits!

    WAG Looking for fear experiences/outcomes

Sounds like for sure the best course of action is for me to stay the course, be patient, apply no pressure, and push my own negativity out of my mind lest it affect her. One thing I didn't hear from any of you is that we should throw in the towel unless she chooses to do so. I definitely have...

    WAG Looking for fear experiences/outcomes

I've read through several old threads related to fears and quitting so I know there is lots of info out there. But, I'm not quite sure I've seen one related to this particular question. I have a 9 year old daughter who's competeing level 5. She began suffering with fears on back tuck over the...

    Parents What is bullying?

Favoritism will happen at any gym, any school, any workplace, anywhere until the end of time. Heck, I have even experienced it at church of all places. It is hard for me as an adult to accept and manage. So of course it is super hard for kiddos when they are aware of it. Ugh!! Sorry for...

Parents Just switched gyms and might be regretting it

Ahhhh THIS!!! ^^^ I created a thread about this not too long ago. If we could figure out the root cause between muscling up with bent arms and straight arm kips we could win a Nobel peace prize! Lol!!! I'm sure we'll both be past this concern soon Mrs. Puma!

Parents Switched gyms yesterday...very hard decision..lots of emotions...

    WAG Kip help!

I have no help to offer. But I can say that we are right there with you. It is so hard to watch!!! Wishing your DD good luck to go from "this close" to "got it" very soon!

Parents Pushing kids until they cry?Just part of gymnastics?

Crying during conditioning by new team girls at the beginning of summer training is very common. However, crying mid-season by girls who have been on team for a while would be unusual.

WAG Why?? What is the top reason for a lost skill?

In the case of the kip, it was there dor a week and now gone. So that would fall under "never really had it". I tend to be a pessimistic person. So i am mentally preparing for no kip this summer which will mean no level 4 in the fall. I was just searching for some way i could keep hope...

WAG Why?? What is the top reason for a lost skill?

So, primarily i am asking this question in terms of a lost kip and lost press handstand. But i imagine that the answer could apply to other skills as well. Do kids lose kips and press handstands because of inadequate strength, flexibility, or lack of mental cues? Naturally i am asking so i...

WAG Question about repeating a level

I am trying to mentally prepare myself for the possibility that my gymmie might repeat level 3 despite a year where she averaged over 37 AA. Our gym not only wants a gymnast to "have" the level 4 skills but have a reasonable expectation that they'll score well over 36 AA. A possible barrier to...

    Parents Opinions on offering incentives?

It is for this exact reason that I pay my kids for grades. We do $10 for A's and $5 for B's at each report card. I would never pay for gym skills though. However, a small treat to reward hard work always makes sense to me.

Parents What to do when coach style not a good fit?

This is a tough one because you would hate to "make" her stay in any sport that she didn't want to do. But, it would be a real shame for her to quit solely because of one yelling coach. First, she'll never know what kind of coaching relationship they might have developed given some time. But...

WAG Ok, who LIKES their coach??

We love our gym's coaches and have built up trust in them through the years. I think the role of a gym coach is so different from that of other sports' coaches or school teachers. They work together so many hours over multiple years. I feel fortunate that my DD has so many great ones!

Parents Choosing to go to "lower" group due to schedules?

Your reasons to put your daughter in the "lower" group probably outweigh the improved scores she would probably achieve by training with the "higher" group. For those who haven't experienced the "lower/higher" training group phenomenon within a level, believe it. We have lived with a similar...

Parents A little sad about DDS' gymnastics

I talk about this anytime my DD or any friends or their parents get discouraged about their performance in the gym. These kids are essentially learning to fly. Having the bravery and work ethic to do it is an accomplishment in itself. Love it!!

WAG How to process negative encouragement

So so true. This is exactly why I didn't charge into angry, protective mama bear mode when she got into the car sobbing and told me what she did on Thursday night. We've had this coach for 2 years and have seen that while he says some awful things periodically, there are far more episodes of...

WAG How to process negative encouragement

If it is negative to an extent that the girls are demoralized and don't want to put in the work to keep improving it is bad bad bad. Sorry to hear about the pacifier comment. Not cool.
