WAG Does USAG place a limit on the coach:gymnast ratio?

Our gym will not let girls do make ups for missed practices, saying that USAG limits the ratio to 1:8, so they cannot go over that to accommodate a kid doing a make up. Is there truth to that?

Coaches First step to becoming a verified coach

Tomorrow I'm starting an education (for lack of a better word) to become a verified 'helping' coach, which means I can coach a group together with someone and actually have the papers to prove that I will be able to do so. I'm so excited!

WAG New Mantra: I am not her coach

Okay, I have come across this struggle for the first time in Short Stack's gymnastics career. I am not a coach. I realize this. I have never attempted to coach my daughter, because, 1) it's not my role 2) I know that I don't understand enough about the sport and skills to speak intelligently...

Parents New Gym, struggling with Coach Communication

So after 4 years at the same gym, we moved gyms back in April. The main coach has been a coach for 30+ years, but seems to struggle with communication both with the gymnasts (my 11 year old DD is afraid to ask questions) and with the parents. So last night my daughter was frustrated as she was...

Parents When coach has more confidence

It's so hard to be a parent. My daughter is in between levels and I might be one of the rare parents asking for her to repeat the level. Head coach respectfully tells me we can do that but she doesn't think it's the best place for DD, that she thinks she can do next level, will get skills...

    Parents Angry Coach

My Level 6 daughter does not want to go to practice because of how one of her coaches treats her. She used to always love going, but not any more due to being very scared of this one coach. My daughter has a fear of new, higher level skills her coach wants her to do. If my daughter doesn't...

Parents Sorry if it's been asked before... Annual cost of coach's fees? (booster and non)

I searched the archives and couldn't find an answer to this specific question, so hoping you can help: I am wondering what people pay at various gyms specifically for coaches' fees for meets. So if you think of tuition, meet registration fees, your own travel, uniforms, etc. separate, how much...

Parents Daughter doesn't like nickname given by coach

My daughter is 6, on the level 2 team. A couple of months ago, I heard about the nickname that my daughter's coach gave to her. She didn't seem phased by it at first, and she didn't say much about it. Its a nickname that could be perceived as cute in an offbeat sort of way I guess, and the coach...

    Coaches Coach Work-Outs for Bars

Hey all - I'm pretty new in the forum, but it seems like a great community. I'm a decently fit guy (I can lift 70 or 80 pound kids over my head if need be), but I'm struggling with looking at spotting more advanced things for older/heavier kids. I've really just started working out in a...
