how do you do a backward roll to pushup position? to me, this seems to be like the most impossible skill. how do you do it? any tips? i can't seem to get my arms straight, as i try to lock them, i can't get over with them straight i guess, so i bend them. any tips?

You must keep your head in and your shoulders pushed into your ears.

Keep your shoulders as open as possible when you reach for the floor in the roll and shoot out your legs. It is both the arms and toes working at the same time.

It's also a good idea to learn it to pike stand before pushup/prone.

1. put your hands at eye level with your arms straight and you fingers turned in.
2. Sit on your heels. Do not lean forward go straight down or down and back.
3. Roll back to a tucked candle stick keeping your arms exactly where they were. Since you are going to a prone shape, you only need to keep your arms tight. Make sure this is a fast roll. This skill does not work in slow motion.
4. Open you tuck quickly in the direction you are rolling. This will get you legs to help as Bob mentioned.
5. Stay tight until you land in a prone shape.

Once you have this, you can start timing the extension of the tuck to go to handstand.
