Proud Parent
I am new to our boosters and have been put into the Treasurers position. Our Boosters essentially collects all money from parents for meets their gymnasts are attending and we register them and ultimately send payment to the host gym. In years past there has always been a “coaches fee” that has always been paid directly to the coach from each parent and it covers his travel expense like hotels and meals while at the meets. Now they want the coaches fees to run through our boosters and we in turn pay the coach the fees. I guess I’m trying to figure out if we can “legally” pay the coach directly and if we do will we need to issue a 1099 to the coach beings it is over $600? Has anyone experienced this or ran into this before?

Not a tax attorney, but this raises flags. If your booster club is collecting meet fees and registering athletes, paying meet organizers, you are essentially operating as an agent for the gym. And yes, previous post, you would have to generate 1099s

I am convinced booster clubs should be avoided at all costs lol
