Sorry, you're right I should have said "legal action," not suing. My point is the same as yours though, in the end @Terry . She did nothing wrong here and wanting sites to take down images with her face in them is not an admission of guilt or that she was sexting.

So it settled, Beiber to Russia...your welcome.

I am glad to see the discussion on this issue. I have to believe we are all on the same side of the coin. It is an invaluable thing to be able to discuss a topic like the effects of social media, news outlets, reporting, selfies and the general technology that is our children's norm.

It isn't easy to navigate and laws will be made and tweeked as time goes on. The opportunity to discuss where the laws stand at the moment is paramount to change. We all want to protect children, we are all here on this sight because we love, support, coach children. It is an important topic and I too am glad everyone is graciously allowing that conversation. I don't hear in anyone's response that this is something we should blame a child for but rather look where the law stands now and how will society move forward. These problems are huge and wide spread and need to be brought to the forefront.

They finally made an apology. I will attach it so you don't even have to go on their site. Sad to say that for most people it's not going to be enough. Too little too late....

Their ridiculous version of a mea culpa is not going to fly. Do they not realize the reporting of this incident was a problem but the bigger issue is the photos linked in their report? No mention of how distasteful that was and apparently illegal?

That is not much of an apology at all. My guess is they have been loving all of this attention. They only apologized because they had to. It doesn't sound sincere in any way. ugh! That was my girls favorite site to watch gymnastics on.

It's close to "I'm sorry people were offended." And really, this crime reflects badly on gymnastics?! If this is how they understand what they did wrong, then they have no place providing exclusive coverage in any USAG or NCAA venue. Clearly they don't get it at all, and I wouldn't let them anywhere near my daughter. If you think your agenda is "championing gymnastics," how about providing some support for an athlete who's been victimized by some slick professional criminals who also victimized others?

and how about showing some loyalty to a young gymnast who just happens to be an Olympic Gold Medalist, an Olympic Silver medalist and a world champion vaulter for Team USA?

I feel like this is an apology for the story, which I don't have a problem with.

They need to acknowledge posting the link, and specifically apologize for any harm that may have resulted. You know, like from kids (a large percentage of their audience) clicking the link. I don't think it would be out of line for them to specifically apologize to Makayla either. Maybe something like " we regret any additional distress we have caused Makayla...." They probably don't even want to breathe her name at this point.

ReDistribution of child pornography, exploitation of a minor and distrubution of pornography to a minor is illrgal. Sooo... Probably a little bigger apology in the form of a hearing is necessary....

Let's be completely clear here. The objection is that Gymnastike purposely and knowingly provided a live link to nude photographs of a young woman possibly taken when she was a minor and posted without her knowledge or consent. I think that is pretty much the end of the conversation and provides me, at least, with a place to focus all of my blame and condemnation.

this is correct. gymnastike has committed a felony. the stolen photos were when she was underage. therefore, gymnastike posted and posted links to child porn. that's all.
