Proud Parent
We just got a notice from the new gym about the leos and warm up suits for the competition season. Now keep in mind that at our old gym we paid only $70 a year for the comp leo. But the new gym wants $170 for the leo alone and another $140 for the warm up suit. Holy Moly! $310 within 1 week for this stuff. Is this normal? My husband wants to know if it was spun with gold. I want to know if they purposely picked out the most expensive one.

How much do y'all pay for competition leos?

Jennifer

The hidden costs in changing gyms. I actually got lucky and DD changed to a gym that does less blingy leos/warm up suits. Her first level 4 season, leo and warm up were about $265 (?) and at her new gym last year for her 2nd year of level 4, her leo AND warm up were cheaper than just the warm up at her old gym, for a grand total of $165. I bet the leo is covered in bling! That usually brings the price up quite a bit. Post a pic when you get it, it is probably really pretty. :)

My DD is level 1 and we are paying $250 for leo and warm up. Level 1-3 will have the same leo while level 4 and up are getting a more expensive set. I think theirs is suppose to be around $350. So it is pretty normal i guess.

Not going to make you feel any better but we just shelled out $650 for warmups, Comp leo, practice leo and bag..

Hate to say it, but it is not unusual.
Dd's competition leos have always been the most expensive pieces of clothing in our house.

sorry, not gonna make you feel any better. We usually have $150-190 in leos (every 2-3 yrs) and $150 in warm-ups (every 3-4 yrs).

Expensive Leos

We just changed gyms and had to buy all new warmups, leos (competition and exhibition), and bags. It came out to about $400. They look really sharp and fit very well.
Our previous gym went with very cheap leos and warmups and they did not look good at all because the leos puckered at the seams and the warmups did not match and were baggy. Even though the cost was low, the parents were not happy.

Our competition leo ONLY is $300 this year...it was only $250 last year and it doesn't look much different..they haven't given us a price on the warm ups yet but it is rumored to be about $200..

Wow, I guess I should have been thankful at DDs old gym, too. I am shocked. Those are some pricey leo/warm ups. I do love to look at the pretty, blingy leos at meets, but am glad for our low bling, more reasonably priced leos. We are keeping warm ups this year and the L5 leo is still under $90. And that is 3/4 sleeves. Just not a lot of crystals, etc.

Mind you, I haven't received that bill yet, so.....

But - that doesn't really sound too terribly out of the ballpark of the numbers I've heard for our gym. But, as I was telling someone earlier today, my comparison sport is hockey (which both my boys play), so my mindset is skewed. Nothing our gym has thrown at us has really caused me to catch my breath.....yet. But ice time? Hokey smokes. That'll cause heart attacks for sure.

Question, though, about bags. Our gym doesn't do them (or, I should say, hasn't in the past. We'll find out for definite on 8/3 what this year entails) and I've always thought they looked so nice to have a team have the same bag. Anyway - my point - Q will need a bag, then, and I'm looking around in case I need to order/find one. What brands are your bags? What size? Any special features?

IrenicMom,

My DDs gym sells bags, but they don't have to use them. It is just a backpack with the gym name on it. Her friend gave it to her last year for her birthday. Honestly, any plain backpack or duffel bag would do. Her old gym, she had a duffel bag with the gym name on it. Nothing special.

Our coach choose short sleeve/tank top style leos for competition this year for this reason. We have 2 families with 3 gymnast on team both. So we are getting nice and simple warm ups and nice tank top leos for under 100 dollars for the leo (I think) and im not sure about the warm ups.

But no its not unusual to pay that for leos and warm ups.:D

Our gym is very practical and thrifty minded when it comes to the comp leos and stuff. They don't change the design every year...more like every 4 to 5 years...depends on the parents at the boosters club and what they vote for. This way, we can bring in our stuff and sell/buy it second hand when the kids move from compulsories to optionals (they have diff leos, but the same warm ups) or if dd outgrows them.

I was able to buy my dd's stuff from a girl who left the gym...4 workout leos, her level 4 leo, a level 5/6 leo for later, warm ups and some other clothing with the gym logo on it for around $200. It all fits her great and would have cost me about $650 to buy it all new. We did have to buy a new bag because the gym embroiders their logo and the girls' names on them, but it was a simple black duffle bag...only $30.

Yes, the gear is WAY pricey! I just love that we had the option to buy the second hand stuff, because most of the time, the girls hardly wear the stuff at all anyway! My dd's stuff all looks brand new!

That is awesome. Think it would help a lot of people out if all gyms did this.

My DD's leo was $200.26 and the warm-ups were right under $200. The real kicker is that this is the last year they will use those leos and warm-ups AND my DD can't compete because she's too young. So I am the proud owner of a $200 leo that she'll probably only wear for pictures . I did get out of buying the warm-ups, but still I was not happy.

They said she needed the leo for team pictures, possibly a few exhibitions and maybe she might get to do one meet in the spring if and only if the owner will let the coach take the kids and someone wants to go other than us. The level 4's have never competed in the spring before, but this is a new coach who wants to take them.

I am not sure of the price for our new leo but it is rumored to be around $110.00. They have not decided on the warm-ups yet this year so who knows. Alex's level 5 leo last year was $160.00 and she only wore it 2 times and only to compete bars since she had broken her foot. I think the price they are quoting you it pretty accurate with what most gyms pay.
Here is a pic of Alex's new comp leo.

Have to agree with others that the prices for the leo and warm ups is not out of line---actually less than many gyms. We're getting new warm ups this year, but haven't been told a price yet. Based on price sounds like they have some stones etc. on them---that always kicks the price up.

I think the sticker shock for the leos/warm ups hits hard because the gyms give short notice on paying and many times order everything at once. The only consolation may be that you'll use the leo and warm ups for several years.

At our old gym the cost of the leo and the warm-up together was a little over $500. So, I'd love your cost! Our new gym is in the process of ordering/sizing right now. Originally they told us the cost would be close to $500. Well, our parents association got involved and said no way so they re-thought the whole package. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. They don't need a lot of bling. It's not the leo that makes the gymnast perform better!

I was lucky my daughter used her leo for 3 years and the parents booster club bought them so we did not have to pay for them. They are supposed to get a new one this year I do not know if will be as lucky we will probally have to buy them. Her warm up suit cost under 100. Our gym also trades and reuses the leos and warmup suits. I do not know if any of your girls do dance I spent about 500 in dance costumes for both my girls and the thing that stinks is they only wear them one night. You get to see them in thier 70 costume for what 3 minutes! At least with the competition leos that get alot of use out of them.
