Well I think unfortunately for them, USAG is going to be broke really soon. Only the gymnasts with money behind them will be going places.

The LSU verification day is open to those who can pay for their own flights, hotels and food for the coach, gymnast and chaperone.

I hope I’m wrong, but one can get the impression that USAG is intentionally making this difficult? Is it, as an organization, already that cash poor?

I imagine it’s legal fees are huge. Plus I know for sure Steve Oenny got a huge payout, I am guessing other directors get that too. Without the sponsors they have basically only got fees to rely on.

I'm sure they also had to pay to get out of the Karolyi's contract a bit early, new Prez fees, and they need to keep their cash to pay for flights, lodging for int'l events- they are now paying for a parent/guardian to travel with each athlete as well. I think the LSU thing was a good idea, but I do see how it will favor families that are financially set and willing to dive in to an organization that is really a big transition movement. The decisions on who to pick will be interesting as it won't just be about what skills you can throw well....

I really do not think the video is in support of Luikin. Many who testified attended UCLA or OU are still currently on those teams. I think maybe others have taken the message of UCLA and OU and purposed it in for their own message. I think that is disgraceful as well.

No I don’t think the video came across as supporting Luikin at all. The message seemed ver clear.

If USAG really is in dire financial straits, what are the implications for athletes not in the elite stream? If the national organization collapses, will the state organizations be able to continue running the JO, Xcel, etc. programs on their own?

@mommyof1 Good question.

I do not think the USAG at any level really does much for local JO meets, other than giving its sanction and collecting its share of the money. The gym that host the meet does the work. I have read the rules for hosting a meet in Maryland. It seems to me all that the region and state do is collect money. Someone with more knowledge I'd love to hear what USAG actually does for local meets.

I believe that the state/region funds are also in USAG's hands.

I can't remember the gentleman's name (I just know his last name seemed difficult to spell) but I just read an entire post on Facebook from him. He is currently in the process of getting a new organization up and running. Hoping to be ready to go by Oct. 2018. He is doing all of the legwork now as a contingency plan. He wants there to be an another option if USAG can't be fixed -- if they continue to be reactive instead of proactive

Yes. That is where I started. He is highly respected in this sport. I have heard a lot about this as he is based in our region. He is a great person to do this!

Several companies are picking up the #wst trend now: Plum, Flogymnastics, etc. I see them posting in solidarity of the gymnasts that are still working hard despite all that's going on. Not in support of Valeri.

I wonder if those companies would consider sponsoring the gymnasts, or at least pay travel fees?
