    Coaches Cue words for bars

I like to give my girls cue words to think about while doing skills, and I was wondering what words other coaches use. My cue words work sometimes and with some kids... For baby giants (long hang pull overs) I use kick and shift. For clear hips I use drop, shift, open. What do you use for...

    Coaches Introducing clear hips

With all this talk of clear hip drills, I was wondering how you introduce clear hips, how you explain them, an what drills you start with. This is my first season teaching the clear hip from the beginning, and I'm looking for all the help that I can get. Thanks!

Coaches Had a "eureka" moment on clearhips, wanted to share and get feedback

Looks fun and easy. On a side note... This is my first time teaching clear hips from the beginning, and I was wondering how you introduce them to your gymnasts

Coaches Stalder/Toe-on for Level 5 Bars

This week is the last week of our season, so next week starts new skill training. I was planning on teaching progressions for this and clear hips. I'd like to give my girls options in case some are not good at clear hipping. What progressions do you use?

Coaches Afraid of jumping to high bar...

Competition was a success yesterday! She scores a 7.0 with over 1.5 in deductions on her kips because they were spotted. Next step...make the kips without help in the meet

    Coaches Implementing TOPs style training

I've been thinking about my kiddos need to improve strength and flexibility, and I was thinking about implementing some TOPs strength into our workouts. Does anyone know where I can find info (I've looked on USAGs website). I'm looking for basic lesson plans, etc

    WAG Beam cartwheels

If one of my girls falls off the beam and they are okay I encourage them to get back up and go again. Depending on the fall, I'll have them do 2-3 on low the hop back up on high. I reassure them that they're okay and that I know they're scared. If they start getting frustrated I will send them...

Coaches Afraid of jumping to high bar...

So...we moved the bars in to 1 and she caught the bar on the first try yesterday! Then...she wouldn't catch it again. She'll jump and touch the bar at any setting (no matter how far apart) but she won't catch. I think my next goal is to keep them close and work on her grip strength.

    Coaches Meet week workouts

I like the ideas! We played a game last night where we divided into three teams and each team competed 3 routines and the team with the most points won (we did this with beam and floor). On bars I gave them the challenge of making 50 routines (as a team) in 30 minutes.

Coaches Afraid of jumping to high bar...

So I've tried a combination and we're making a little progress. I have a 12in mat, two 8in mats, and a folding mat stacked under the bar with a cheese wedge stood up in front of the high bar. (I'm using this station as a jump hollow touch the high bar and back hip circle undershoot try to kick...

    Coaches Meet week workouts

I'm trying to revamp the workouts that we do the week of a meet. My level 3s come MWF 3 hrs each day an my level 4s come MTTF 3 hours each day. Last year we just did a lot of routines, but I'm looking to make it more of a prep for the meet. The Friday before (night before) we always have a mock...
