    Backhandspring HELP!

Make sure that your round off is good first, feet together and good rebound. If you have the good round off and rebound that should put you in good position for the back handspring. A lot of girls that have that similiar problem do not finish their RO before trying to go into the Back...

    Coaches Shoot Thru Help!

Yes! Just getting her to understand that she had to lift while keeping her shoulders over the bar was the biggest issue. Thank you!

    Coaches Shoot Thru Help!

Good news!! One of the girls got her shoot thru on Monday. We were both thrilled! Better yet, she could still do it at practice last night. Now if I could just get the other girl to get hers.

Hand stand question for coaches and/or professionals

Our younger non team girls do handstand holds against a wall, as long as they can. Our team girls do not do holds, they do handstand walks once or twice accross the floor.

    Off Topic Cell phone rules

Both of my DD's have basic cell phones with texting they are 4th and 5th grade. The oldest has had hers for 2 years. But, we do not have a home phone and neither did their dad. I wanted them to have them to have the phones basically to be able to reach me is case there were issues while at their...

    Coaches Shoot Thru Help!

Well, I tried it with them. However, they won't physically let me put them into the correct position for it. They won't stay tight and just let themselves flop. I have the same problem with them on beam with handstands, and side handstand dismount. I've spoken to the director and head coach and...

    Coaches Shoot Thru Help!

I have 2 level 4's that cannot do shoot thru's. We are mid way thru the season. I've tried a block under the bar that they stand on and then jump up and shoot thru. Even when I spot them it takes them forever to get their foot thru. They just keep doing the same thing over and over. They cast...

    # Hours/week do you spend in the gym?

Our LV4's and 5's have 6-8 hours a week. 3 days, 2 hours each. Then open gym 2 hours on Saturdays. But, we are at the YMCA so the hours are a little less. Plus my DD's do 2 more hours of tumbling. Our LV 6 and up are there an extra 1.5 hours a week plus open gym if they attend. My DD's would...

    dealing with pain

I am a level 4 coach and each year there always seems to be at least one gymnast that something always hurts. This year there is a girl that her ankle always hurts but if she ices, she is good to go in under 5 minutes. That went on for about the first two months of the season. I suggested that...

    Cartwheels on Beam

You can look for your first foo to land. You can also try T-ing your hands which usually puts you in a better position (if your not already doing that). It helps some of our gymnasts. Make sure you are kicking straight over. A lot of girls want to kick around the side and it just doesn't work...

    Bridge Kickover

We teach the same thing with blocks and then panel mats removing layer by layer. For your shoulder flexability though try working your bridges more and really pushing though your shoulders, if you are able you can also take that bridge and push up into it on your forearms which stretches the...

    Tiger Paws aren't working

My daughter wears them on everything except bars (of coarse). She does have wrist problems, but they do help. But, she did complain about the top of her hands hurting for quite sometime because of them hitting there. For her, she doesn't have a choice to wear them or not. She can't tumble or do...

    Help with Kips??

Any suggestions for getting straight arm kips? We have a couple kids that can get up on the bar but have bent arms so they have to push up and then cast. They have gotten better since summer but still struggling. They have their high bar correct and connected.

    Are your meets mandatory?

At our gym, the gymnast's are expected to compete at all scheduled meets. There of coarse are expections but not many.

    DD's BHS fear

Sometimes they bend their arms out of fear or habit. But, sometimes it's lack of upper body strength. I know we had a couple girls this year that were doing the same thing but it was because they were not finishing their round off and then trying to go into the BHS. We always stress that a good...

    Invitational Meet Saturday

Just wanted to wish my level 4's and the rest of our team good luck in their meet Saturday! They have come a long way already this season and this is only the third meet. I'm excited to see how they do! Also good luck to my two DD's that are competing also. My Level 4 should do great, this is...
