What would your gym do, or have they done, when a gymnast is uptraining and halfway through the summer gets injured and will only be able to condition for about 4-6 weeks? Our gym makes level decisions in August, meets start in late Nov., no level changes until the following Spring after States...
My daughter was told to stay a level 3 for her summer training group, even though she had a solid season, scoring in the 9s in all events at meets, often mid-high 9s in bars. Her coach is wonderful so we didn't have an issue with this and my daughter would still uptrain 4/5 skills and make a...
Purely my brain going off on tangents and being curious so figured I'd post here. I kinda get how gymnasts get to be elite in the US, but are the requirements and skills the same in other countries? Like going elite in Japan or South Africa, the same as here? I remember reading about a gymnast...
My daughter has a meet that's an hour from our house. She has a 7:30am 'be there' time, warm up starts at 8am. Would you get a hotel nearby the night before? Or just get up early and drive there?
Wondering what about a gymnast the coaches are looking for when they select girls to train TOPS. I've seen quite a few different levels train for it, some low and some higher. Some appear to have more flexibility than strength and vice versa. But in general, what do coaches look for when...
My daughter recently came back to artistic gymnastics after about a 5 month break (did T&T during this time). The gym is giving her the month to see how she builds her strength and stamina to then join their artistic team. She just turned 8 and is excited to do artistic again but she gets...
I'm confused and need some wise opinions. We pulled my daughter our of a toxic and dangerous gym environment toward the end of December. My daughter (7) was so depressed about her gymnastics and thought she was an awful gymnast (which is not true; she's not destined for the Olympics but she's a...
Some of you know we ended up at a new gym last summer. Unfortunately the new gym is not working out and most recently they punished my daughter by making her hold a split for 20-30 minutes. Once my DD's legs started going numb (falling asleep), she decided to stand up. She said they hurt after...
Interested in hearing how other gyms do it. Our new gym is very strict on being ready for meets. A week before a meet, the kids must be at all practices and make a certain number of full routines or they're not allowed to compete that event. For example, if they miss their 6 bar routines, they...
If a gymnast isn't doing an event what are their options for showing they're scratching?
I've heard, salute, touch the apparatus and then salute again. But I've also heard the coach can supply a list in advance of which events the child is scratching (and the child doesn't have to do anything...
Our current gym really encourages teammates to cheer each other on at meets. Sounds great, except my daughter doesn't like when others are cheering her on. In fact, so much that is makes her self conscious and shy to the point where she doesn't want to even do the event at a meet. I'm not...
Just wanted to share that my DD got her kip yesterday. She's super excited and does it on the high bar too. It certainly still needs work before adding it in to a L3 routine but she can do it and get up onto the bars. Yay!
(Sorry, accidentally posted twice. Trying to remove the other one.)

A friend of mine has a daughter in gymnastics and she is not part of this board. Her husband is in the military and they get moved a lot. They're heading to northern virginia area and is wondering what gym would be good for her daughter. She's 11 and going to be L6 this year. I don't know gyms...
I'm not in the know on best stretches, but one of the younger coaches in our gym said that they plan to work on my daughters legs so that her straight legs look even straighter. She said they'll be pushing down on her feet while she's sitting with legs out in front of her to help build knee...
Hey all- so my daughter appears to be in between level 2 and 3, according to the coaches who move kids for summer training (at least back in May when decisions were made). We were told she needs to get stronger and more flexible to do L3. She can do her round off back handpsring and the entire...
My gymmie has nearly all of her skills for Level 3 (she can do the entire bar routine, back handspring (but it needs work)) but is being held back (repeating L2) because the coach said she needs more upper body strength and flexibility. What are some good conditioning moves to strengthen her...
How do your gyms do summer training groups? Being new to the sport, I have general questions as to how different gyms do things for summer training.
Do gymnasts have to have the next level skills to move up to the next level summer training group?
Do gymnasts have to have all of the next level...
The end of the competition season and my gymnasts are uptraining to L3. But one thing I noticed last season is that the coach never really worked on basic form on making sure the gymnasts legs are straight at certain points or toes pointed and probably other form things too that I don't see. So...
So, I've seen various comments on here about parents essentially saying Do not watch practice. Or others where parents say, I watched practice, but don't normally (like it's a bad thing).
Why is watching practice such a no-no?
Our gym has a very small watching area and many parents just sit...
