Parents How are age groups determined?

Our coach has my son in level 3 age 9 for competitions, but he doesn't turn 9 until November of 2024. He just had his first competition where he was 7yo competing in the 9yo age group. Coach explained that age groups are determined by how old they are December 31 2024, but that doesn't jive...

    WAG Age groups for Regionals

Just curious..Is there a published list of age groups for regional competitions or it is still taken by birthday and then divided evenly from that point? Also are groups at regionals limited in size? I know our state meet groups were supposed to be 20 athletes or less in each age group. It...

Parents Rant about the system (regionals age groups)

This topic comes up every year, and I usually have a pretty zen attitude about it, but I think I've finally hit my limit and am ready to declare that the system is grossly unfair. I'm talking about how the age group system works for L9 and L10 nationals. We are in a competitive region, and it...

Parents Lack of Flexibility for Competing w Higher Age Group due to Conflict?

Hi! I am somewhat of a new gym parent as my daughter just started competing about a year ago. She is really passionate about it and loves the competition. However , there have been several meets, including States, which she has not been able to compete in due to the schedule for her age group...

    Parents Child A/B age groups??

Hi, I have a question about state meets and age placement. My daughter is 7, but turns 8 before December 31st of this year. Will she compete in the child B age group or the child A age group. I saw something that indicated that if she turns 8 before December 31st then she would compete in the...

    WAG Master's age group

So this was a new one for me! We were at a meet this weekend and in their Xcel sessions they had a Master's age group. They had 3 girls in their mid to late 20's competing Diamond. It was so cool! The oldest of the group actually took the highest AA score in the whole Diamond session. I just...

Parents Child in DDs age group passed her out skill & performance wise, coach playing favorites

My DD is a very promising gymnast & is on the to youngest elite team in the gym. She was the best & had the best results in her age group, works so hard but another child has passed her out & the coach is spending much more time with this child... My child is not a very natural gymnast & has...

    Parents Age groups at meets

My daughter is about to have her first meet in September. The level 3 girls range from ages 7-12. They all compete at the same time. Will they give awards based on age group or all the girls that compete at the meet?

Parents put in older age group or squad?

my daughter started gymnastics in October. she is 5 almost 6. she got put with the 5-6 year olds but in her third week the coach pulled me to one side and said she thought she would do better in an older group as she is very strong and flexible and could already do all the things in that class...

Coaches Help to make basic skills fun for different age groups especially the boys

Hi I coach af family class. It is really fun and great exercise but not the least competitive. It is children (Boys and girls) age 6-12 with their parents and a relative large groupe (40 kids and 30 parents). We have 30 minutes warm up with fun games, acrobatics together etc. For the next hour...

WAG Level 10 Regional and National Championships Age Groups

Can someone please explain to me how the Level 10 age groups for Regional and Nationals are determined? I thought it was so that the number of gymnasts were fairly evenly distributed throughout all age groups, but looking at the schedule there is a large variance in how many kids are in each...

Parents biggest age group for level 3?

My daughter (8 in the Fall) will be repeating pre team with the goal of competing level 3 in Fall 2016. So she will likely be competing level 3 right around her 9th birthday. Is this old? It seems pretty normal at our gym (which is not a very competitive gym) as well as at our former gym...

    WAG Age group question

Hi everyone! My DDs have been competing for 3 years now and this is their first year as optional gymnasts. In all of the meets they've attended in the past the age groups seem pretty even. Say, 14 girls in child, junior a/b and senior a/b. Not necessarily those exact breakdowns, but each age...

    Age Groups

Just curious as to how the age groupings work for the men. I see 17,18 year olds competing in the 15-16 year old age group, and 17-18 yo competing in the 17-18 year age group. And 14 year olds, but I assumed they were turning 15 soon. How do the age groups work here?

WAG What tends to be the largest age group for level 7?

DD will be 11 when competition season starts in Dec. I was wondering if that puts her right in the thick of things with large/many age groups around that age or a bit on the younger side? Last year she was either in the second youngest group or the youngest group depending on the size of the...

WAG Level 9 age groups for regionals/nationals

why do the eastern regions have 16 age groups when the western region L9 and all level 10 is based on 8 age groups? I realize the same total number of gymnasts advance to nationals (east/west) but was curious why east doesn't just adopt the 8 age group system to coincide with L10.
