Much like flippinout, our gym has a less expensive tank Leo for L3 and then the same longsleeved Leo with bling for L4-10. They used to have different leos for compulsory and optionals, but not anymore.
The idea is the same, ease kids and parents into competitive gymnastics with lower costs and lower commitment for the "practice" level, once "real" competitive gymnastics begin the hours, costs, meet numbers and yes, cost of uniform etc all goes up. Our gym considers L3 an introductory level. Lots of stuff that is mandatory for L4-10 isn't required for L3 such as club practice leos etc.

My gym has tank leos for compulsories and long sleeve for optionals and Xcel. It might even be tank for L3 & 4 and then 5+ have long sleeves.

I think typically long sleeves cost more. Since the lower levels are still growing, they may have to buy a new leo two years in a row. I wouldn't want to spend $150 on a leo twice when I could spend $85 (just guessing prices). I haven't seen our gyms compulsory leos yet, but I'm sure they are similar to ours.

We just changed gym due to a cross country move so I'm not sure about new gym, but old gym had different Leo's for compulsory and optionals. Our compulsory Leo's were 3/4 length sleeve and cost $100. Optional Leo's were long sleeve. I'm not sure of the cost of those.

We just moved also but at the old gym
Level 1-4 and xcel- tank Leo
Levels 6-10 - long sleeve

I think the new gym does different Leo's for compulsories and optionals based on photos, but I'm not 100% sure.

The level 2's wear tank Leo's. The levels 3-5 wear long sleeve Leo's and then level 6-10 also wear long sleeve Leo's but different from 3-5 but similar design. I have seen some people posting that there gym only keeps Leo's for two years and then they get new ones. What is the reason behind that?

To get new, fancy leos..? ;) I think our gym tries to keep comp leos for 2-3yr cycles, unless something unforeseen happens. Last year for instance the L3's had a very pretty, blinged tank Leo. All those girls either quit or moved up to L4 (so nobody would need to purchase a new one simply because it was changed) and the company who made that one no longer has it in stock... So the L3's get a totally different one this year. :) Our main comp Leo was new last year, will stay this year so you would only need to order it if you are new or need a larger size. Luckily, DDs still fits well! :)

I'm in Australia, but our girls have a compulsory training leotard and competition leo for pre-team to level 3. Level 4s and up have a new competition leo, and can train in whatever leo they like :)

L2 and L3s (which we consider "intro" levels) and Xcel have a tank leo and warm-ups through an athletic wear company. Much cheaper for the parents. L4-10 have the same long-sleeve leo, but the optionals get it first when we phase in a new leo every few years. L4-10 also have warmups made by the leo company and blinged out. More expensive.

We try not to make entry-level and Xcel parents spend hundreds on leos and warm-ups suits their children might only wear for a season and then decide to play soccer or whatever.

Sorry I clicked on the wrong country by accident.

Yes and the wrong button you clicked was to join here and make your 10th account. You are underage and have broken the rules about multiple accounts. It is illegal for you to be here. Breaking the law is not something the CB likes to do. Please stay away.

Well, she did warn you she was crazy....

The L2s have tank leos that get changed every year because...well, because they are L2s and no one ever has to repeat L2.

L3 through L5 has a 3/4 sleeve that they keep for two years.

Optionals have a long sleeved leo of a different design that they also keep for two years.

No Xcel team.

All our levels (3-10) have the same leo and we get a new one every year. I think our HC has some sort of leo addiction ;) This is Pea's fourth leo, every year it's different colors, different style, different brand.

Here's an side question. Pea just got her new leo for this season. It has full long sleeves (to the wrist.) How does that work with grips? She isn't sure whether the grips should go around the sleeves or if she should roll the arms up?

Compulsory is $100
Optional is $170.
Same style should last between 2-3 yrs.

This is pretty much on the low side from what i have compared. Some gyms are $200 for compulsory and $300 plus for optional....
Our gym figures that for some L2 or L3 girls, they are not quite sure if they really want to choose gymnastics as their sport, so they dont expect them to drop $400 just to compete...(after warm ups, bags etc).

Long sleeves - push them up for bars. Our L2s have tank leos. L3-10 have the same long sleeve leo. We get new leos (new style) every year, so there's no passing down, etc.

We have the same leo for everyone L3-10 and Xcel. The leo style sticks around for 2-3 years and the gym helps to facilitate a used leo swap/sale.

A lot of people just put the wristband on over the Leo sleeve. I personally prefer to just pull them up a little. Though sometimes the sleeves may be to tight to roll up. In that case you just put them on over top.

Threads featuring leos get loooooooong legs - lots of posts and sharing. :);) I have been watching and reading from distance. At least up to now.

I implement USA-G L3-10 leos on a 2 year cycle. The vendors typically do not carry the leo material longer than that time frame. Our State/Region typically compete a long sleeve leo. I conservatively go with the long sleeve. I implement a different Optional Leo. L6-10's have different needs than the L3-5's. It is fancier/blingier and comes with young lady cuts and features important to them. It has 3/4 sleeve (great for UB's and warmer meet sites), fancier/better fabric, appropriately conservative cut hips and neckline. The deliberate tactic is for our L6-10's athletes to have a gorgeous, showy leo. The L6-10 leos are certainly more expensive, but those athletes and families are committed. The warm-ups are on the same 2 year cycle. I do know that is a big financial burden every 2 years, but the vendors have me with their inability to carry the fabrics (for additions or replacements). It just is. We make it work for our situation.

As should be, IMO, an adult woman directs the design, fitting, vendor relationship, purchase and stocking of our Team's leos for our gym. Long ago when I, a short balding guy, did it, it did not work out as well.

Best to all of the contributor's athletes in their upcoming competitions. I imagine they will look dynamite and their gymnastics will be stunning, SBG -

We have been at 2 gyms, and both gyms had tank leos for levels 1&2 and long sleeved for levels 3 and up.
