How to balance school and gymnastics?

I definitely can understand where you're coming from. It doesn't matter that your hours are on the low end of the spectrum (mine are too!), it can still be exhausting to balance school, work, and a social life! My advice is to take a break after school, even for just 10 minutes to clear your...

    WAG Concussion warning

I'm bumping this to share my story. I suffered a concussion when I was a cheerleader. My concussion treatment lasted for about 8 months, and I had to undergo two types of therapies because my vision had been affected. I had trouble sleeping for months, could not go shopping for longer than...

    After practice snacks

If you aren't allergic to nuts, they are full of protein and healthy fats that are awesome after a work-out! My fave snacks include frozen bananas, chocolate milk, pita chips, watermelon, and pineapple!

    WAG Conditioning for Rec kids?

At my gym, conditioning is left to the discretion of the coaches (most are teens and don't do any). HOWEVER, if I were a coach, I would schedule at least 5 minutes of conditioning per class that would include 10 pushups, 1o crunches, 30 sec plank, and maybe 10 pull ups. I'm a rec gymnast &...

WAG Privates lessons, good idea or not?

*I am not a competitive gymnast, nor am I in the gym more than once a week anymore. (even though I'm trying to get in more haha) Anyways, after suffering a concussion, I was only allowed to do gymnastics if I had supervision 24/7 during gym. So, we chose to do 1/2 hr privates. It has now been...

    WAG To Compete or Not?

Bumping this again to give an update. I have been at the gym, observing the team a little more after my private. They all seem like really fun girls and such, but I don't know.. something just seems off- maybe it's just how relaxed everything is? I also hate how they all do their jumps/turns...

    Gymnastics Wear (Leotards and Shorts)

If you like the expensive ones, but want them at a good deal I would try AlphaFactor's clearance. They cut the prices each season on previous models and you can pick up leotards for $15 sometimes! https://www.aerialsbyalphafactor.com/clearance/leotards/1 Also, if you want shorts you can always...

Poll: Straddle or Pike Glide Kip

I'm still learning mine, but I prefer to pike. It looks a lot nicer.

    WAG To Compete or Not?

Hi everyone! I'm posting this here to get some advice and insight from both parents and gymnasts alike! So, about two weeks ago I asked my parents if they would be willing to let me compete Xcel before I graduate high school in the next few years. I've always wanted to experience a competition...

    Mixing friends for Birthday?

Do it! At first it may be slightly awkward, but after a little it should be fine. It will be a great way to celebrate with everyone and "combine" friends. No longer will they be school or gym friends, instead they'll just be friends!

    Practice Clothes? (Girls)

Um... It's all about what is comfortable for you. But nobody cares if your underwear lines show. And I find yoga shorts to be the most infuriating shorts to wear to gym. They ride up, get caught on bars, etc. I haven't really tried yoga pants but just an FYI!

    Gymnastics at 14?

There will always be girls who are younger than you who are more advanced. If you really enjoy gymnastics & this bothers you, speak to a coach to see if there's anyway you could be placed with athletes your age. If he/she say no, you could always propose private lessons. Another thing, younger...

    Hitting head on back bends?

*sigh * Yes and no. I have an unnatural arch from scorpions (Cheer days) and it's how I do my backbends currently. But it's also really messed up handstands & backtucks because I try to force arches sometimes.

    Hitting head on back bends?

I've been researching proper form of skills today and from what I found, shoulder flexibility is key in backbends.
