I feel like this is an apology for the story, which I don't have a problem with.

They need to acknowledge posting the link, and specifically apologize for any harm that may have resulted. You know, like from kids (a large percentage of their audience) clicking the link. I don't think it would be out of line for them to specifically apologize to Makayla either. Maybe something like " we regret any additional distress we have caused Makayla...." They probably don't even want to breathe her name at this point.

it's too late...gymnastike is now dead in the water...

this is correct. gymnastike has committed a felony. the stolen photos were when she was underage. therefore, gymnastike posted and posted links to child porn. that's all.
It will be interesting to see which direction this goes. What were they thinking!

i don't know, but they certainly crossed a line now. A BIG LINE. there will be serious consequences and some unintended consequences as well.

i wish to hell that BAD people would stay away from us...gymnastics. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if they get shut down and investigated.

Yes! I need somewhere else that my girls can watch gymnastic videos. They spent hours on that site! Watch a little, make up some routines, watch a little more, make up more routines. Worked for me then, not anymore. I banned gymnastike from my house the day this story broke. At the time I said just for a week while I figured it all out. Now it will be for good and they will be so sad.

So post other great gymnastics blogs or sites that they can look at.

Some of you are probably aware of the situation surrounding Mckayla Maroney and some photographs (some of which are fake). Earlier gymnastike posted an article with links to view these photos (the links have now been removed) which can be accessed by young children. USAG among other organisations are disgusted with the actions of gymnastike and I advise others out there not to go on gymnastike to view this article or any other.
No, but I am now.... Over 11,000 views and not sure of how many posts here, but not going to read them. This reminds me of a recent thread about a gymnast and a leo failure. Not sure how these things are of interest or importance to CB members. Seems like sensationalizing and propagating what that other website (which I had never heard of either) did.

Sounds like a half "bottomed" apology made because they realized they were not as indispensable as they thought.

I am good with never using their site again.

It's a "sorry, not sorry" apology. He was forced to write something, but he clearly did not want to.

"...we regretfully brought more attention to an event that does not reflect positively on our sport and its athletes..."

This is the line in the "apology" that makes me even madder. Really? How does the criminal act of leaking private photos in any way reflect poorly on the sport of gymnastics or it's athletes? There was a crime committed and the commission of that crime does not reflect poorly on the victim or the sport. The article just made the website look bad and the "apology" makes them look even worse.

Well, if you do take the time to read through the posts here, I'm sure you'll see that CB members do have a vested interest in the publication choices of websites that cater to, and often feature, our gymnasts. The website is very popular with this community, and we feel that they have a responsibility that they are not upholding when they link to photos of underage girls simply to drive traffic and line their own pockets. It is fair game to discuss their mistake in an appropriate way here, because it affects our girls in many ways - because they may have been exposed to the images, because the website covers many of our kids' meets including Nationals, because they own the rights to NCAA video coverage, and because our kids might be included in their articles. We are also having a larger conversation on CB about how we talk to our kids about media and about themselves in the context of gymnastics. This discussion has, maybe most importantly, helped mobilize many of us to express our disgust to the decision makers, and/or boycott the site.

Discussing does not equate to sensationalizing and propagating. Although we may vehemently disagree on some of the details, I assure you that everyone who has posted has soundly condemned this crime, and hopes justice is brought to the criminals. Also universal is the anger with Gymnastike for linking to these images.

The people sensationalizing and propagating would be those who have posted the pictures, or links to the pictures, or are somehow hoping to profit off of this, or be entertained by it.

Gymnastike is a big deal to my DD. It is one of the few websites that she had unrestricted access to, and she would always look forward to new content being posted. Most of my gym-mom friends have never heard of CB, but all of their DD's view Gymnastike. This isn't some little-read, backwater blog. According to Bog, Gymnastike also had a pretty cozy relationship with USAG.

11,000+ views mean that 11,000 people are now informed of the corrupt nature of a very popular gymnastics site. It means, that parents can make a more informed choice on what they are spending money on their child to see, it means parents of athletes at gymnastike covered meets can now avoid being exploited by a company that doesn't have the best interest of these young athletes in mind.

11,000+ views mean we're getting the message out and making change in the gymnastics community
