I have two girls who generally have very strong bars but can't get the dismount to turn quick enough. They start the turn at the right time, but they turn so slowly that they can't properly finish the turn at the top of the swing.

Thoughts/suggestions/drills?

I really like the drill at about 0:26 here.

Stack spotting blocks up on the side and have the kids do the dismount onto the block, then add more height. Higher the block the bigger the swing and the child will naturally turn faster because they need to land on the block. Aside from just doing a bunch of dismounts that is the only drill I use. When season is over, make the blocks higher, (bar height) and have the kids cast into it, you will have blinds with some of them in a hurry.

I was thinking of JAO's video on it.

I also use the commonly seen MAG cheat of bringing the hands closer together when swinging before a 1/2 turn.

Love all the drills and progressions! I started some of the basic drills with my girls. We're not doing a lot of tap swings yet--they're already decent at swinging, so I'm focusing on the kips (we don't compete until December). I'm hoping the drills will help them to transition to the dismount easily.
