Parents been a while/ life after gymnastics

Oh Trixiebelle, I have seen your other thread, and I wish I could give you and your dd a tight hug. It is not an easy time; try to relax and see where things lead. It's funny, we see our children on a certain path to the future and to success, and then suddenly we find we are standing in a...

Parents been a while/ life after gymnastics

Regrets: or lessons learned from my life as a gym-mom: Note: these feeling are difficult to write about, but they are honest. If there is one thing I have learned from our journey through gymnastics it is that, as the parent, you must be absolutely honest with yourself about your feelings...

Parents been a while/ life after gymnastics

Funny thing exgymnasticsmomx3, my dd is running track with her high school this spring. She flirted with it last year, but wasn't ready, I guess. I think she is going to be doing sprint distances, but it has not been decided. I'm happy to read that things have worked out for your dd. My dd...

Parents been a while/ life after gymnastics

Its been a long time since I posted anything on this site, probably because I was devastated when my dd quit gymnastics. And I mean devastated!! Our lives had revolved around this sport for 11 years - 11!!! And she was only 13. She was good, so very good, but she was not happy. Gymnastics...

    Off Topic The dog thread

Congrats on your new family member!! Cancer took our beautiful German Shepherd last year:( She was a rescue dog, and while she had her issues (men) - she was still, by far, the best dog ever!! She adored children, although she scared their parents by her sheer size (over 100lbs!). She would...

    Parents Level 10 Nationals anyone?

She could have flown into Long Beach Airport and driven down to SD. It's only a little over an hour, depending on the traffic (lol, love the notices on google maps. It will say things like "45min or up to 3 hours.") Weather update: Been very nice here lately, and looks to be nice though next...

Parents Get Well Fairies for DD

Elbows and shoulders are funny things, especially when falling off the bars. I don't think you would be overprotective by having it checked out. I do think the first thing every little gymnast should learn is how to fall, especially from the bars. Flat, flat, flat!!! Do not try to catch...

    L9/10 gymnast with Sever's

Did you adopt my dd, lol. She is a rising L10 and has been dealing with Sever this past year. It has just flared up again. Good timing though being the end of the season. She is resting, stretching and icing. She does what she can in the gym, when it starts to hurt she sits down to ice...

I don't want to see an xxxxxxxxx tear out of that eye! Coach says.

Actually, a few times I have been tired and frustrated enough around my children to not have the sense to censor my speech. I'm not a saint, and I will not pretend to be one. I will apologize and explain to my children that most of us use bad words at times. It is not right, it should not be...

    Parents Level 10 Nationals anyone?

Hey, Dd's old coaches are from VA too.!! It would be really weird if they were the same coaches... (funny story, dd was talking about her old gym when she first started at her new gym after our big move to the left coast. Another girl turned to her and said, "Tthat use to be my gym before I...

    going to need a miracle

Good luck... and remember that healing your foot is more important than championships (I know that is hard to hear, and to think about) I hope it heals quickly.

    Parents Level 10 Nationals anyone?

Sorry to be a bummer about the weather. The May Gray/June Gloom season is upon us. Many days start gray, but clear up nicely in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the closer to the shore, the longer the gray hangs around. Hopefully it will be a nice weekend with plenty of sun and fun for all...

    Parents Level 10 Nationals anyone?

We will probably be going to support some of dd's friends and team-mates. And hopefully get a chance to say hi to her old coaches. (And it is not really the sunny season in SoCal. This time of year is more gray than sunny, especially near the coast.)

Off Topic Today is William Shakespear's day of birth

Be not afraid of greatness: Some are born great, Some achieve greatness, And some have greatness thrust upon them. Wm. Shakespeare Happy birthday to the Bard. Where would our language be without him? (Though I do not believe I could talk in Iambic...

Parents Alexis got her pins out! Yea!

Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. Be vigilant in doing all the therapy exercises (as well as not doing too much, too fast), it makes the biggest difference in recovering full use. My mom once had a similar injury in her late 30's. She regained full use against the dr.'s prognosis...

    Parents Anyone get Summer Schedules?

Does my dd go to the only gym that does not change the schedule for summer?? I do wish they did summer training in the morning though. Then we could do something afterward without the need to worry about stopping to get to gym on time or dd being worn out when she got there. Oh well.

Off Topic Anyone else homeschool? How are things going?

Our summer learning plans include a trip to the Grand Canyon (yea!! sleeping in a tent for 4 nights. We must be nuts!), playing in our pool, going to gymnastics for dd, continuing piano lessons and tennis lessons for ds, and messing around. Only school-y requirement is reading at least 3...

Parents Last Meet before States....still struggling with Vault Fears

Megley, that's interesting. I watched Nica's old coaches go at one of her old team-mates after falling on bars this weekend. The poor girl, who is an awesome gymnast usually, went on to have a pretty bad time on the rest of her events. She didn't stay for awards either. My dh kept commenting...
