I assumed it was the trainer. Each team is allowed 2 coaches and a medical person on the floor.

That's cool. Just wanted to know. I didn't see her doing much so just wanted to know what her role was. I knew someone here would have the answer!

Her name is Debbie Van Horn. She is the physical therapist for the national team. So you do see her at all of the competitions.

She is the USAG national trainer ... and very nice, I might add. She is at all the team camps at the ranch and also travels with the national team.

Yes what does that mean. What is their area of expertise?

She is part of the medical care team. I believe she is indeed a physical therapist (with a doctorate on PT) but that she also has certification as a certified trainer (specialist in exercise training) , which would be a way of enhancing her PT skills by making them more directly applicable in an athletic environment. But basically, she is part of the care team, not the gymnastics training team. I believe this is correct.

So a trainer is like a personal exercise trainer?

sounds like a sports phsysiotherapist but with wider view to include nutrition and first aid. Quite a general overview of wellness and fitness.
