Ok I just cringe when I see this. First the Hair. Lets get that out of the way and tied up before she lands on her hair and pulls it out. then lets realize 4yo really shouldn't be doing this skill even if the "can" doesn't mean they should. And a hand spring shouldn't have her head bouncing off the ground and should have someone there spotting her to prevent that and if she is going to do this at least have her try to correct her form sheesh!!. Why is everyone in such a rush!!

Yikes. Not a good idea. I cannot believe the parents and coaches stand by and let a 4-year-old do a back handspring... no coach even around to be ready to catch her in case of an accident! Ugh. Makes me angry. I would never, ever, EVER even think of allowing my 5- and 6-year old students to do even a backbend without a heavy spot. In fact, I don't let my older gymnasts do back handsprings when I'm not right there, either. Irresponsible.

The head is. too. heavy. I wish someone people who teach preschoolers would get that through THEIR head. Even on her "good" one the head was brushing the floor. She is obviously very good but this is dangerous. I would love to see her doing gymnastics as I'm sure family and friends would as well but I would like to see safe moves like good cartwheels and bar strength like pullover, BHC. Those moves would be impressive for a 4 year old.

I feel like the uploader's comment is scarier. It pretty much says that if the 4 year old girl felt ready to do RO 8bhs, they would let her, because, hey, she can do it. Yikes!

*winces* Seriously. This is a four year old girl. Some people are little crazy in all that fast tracking. Like dunno said, pullovers would be impressive! I'd like to see that.

Pause at 13 secs and you will gasp :O
YouTube - 4 year old gymnast

There are always gonna be parents like this... This person actually has a few scary videos of their daughter "tumbling". This one scared me so bad. Look at the very last handspring, about 18 seconds into the video. She jumps straight onto her head. Scared me so bad.

That actually horrified me. She jumps straight on to her head and just falls off to the side! Did you notice how she was just laying there at the end of the video, she doesn't even get up! Scary, scary stuff. Just because she "can" do it doesn't mean she should.

exactly so wrong and freaky. And get this her MUM is the coach and the videoer :O

OMG! That's so ugly. I never get why people put something ugly on youtube and think others will be impressed.

I do have to admit, even though it's still ugly, I'm kind of impressed with the boy.

I don't have as much problem with the little boy. Not the best technique, but at least he wasn't hitting his head. His RO one BHS and set is actually pretty great, watching some of his other videos. If he were doing RO BHS BT it would probably look pretty good. Impressive power and speed. Even if he stops cheer (I'd move him to gymnastics, at least at this early age, and specialize in cheer later) he'd have a bright future as a track and field athlete or in other sports.

Still the crooked BHSs out of the full are concerning. it could lead to overuse injuries, proper technique is important for a lot of reasons, not just landing the trick. If all star cheer programs don't get this through their head, they're going to be losing talented athletes in masses and will not push their sport to the next level in general. All star cheer seems to be involved in the original video as well...

Looking through the videos, it appears that the mom responded and said she and her hubby own a gym and the child picked it up without instruction. On another video, she is cheering and does those on a high school basketball gym floor. I think it said she does all star cheer. I personally don't agree with the suggestive moves in the dance routine, but I have never done cheerleading and neither have my girls. So I probably and ignorant of the sport. It scares me(the tumbling). What I have seen at our gym from the all star team-our coach does not allow suggestive dance moves. It appears that this is the family's lifestyle(cheerleading). To each their own. I just hope the little one or other little ones don't get hurt.

Does anyone really believe that these children just pick up these skills on their own with no instruction? I really have a hard time believing that. I don't really think that some 5 year old saw his mom tumbling and decided to try it and learned it all on his own.

I agree. I'm much more impressed when I see a little kid do something really controlled and beautiful. There was a 3 year old who came to DD's old gym and she could chunk a standing BHS. I was kind of like wow at first. Then I saw that she could really do nothing else. She couldn't do a decent handstand, cartwheel and she could do nothing on bars. Her mom was truly crazy. She's probably on youtube somewhere. The mom told everyone she herself was a former elite gymnast which I completely didn't believe and not just because she was well over 300lbs. They stayed about a month and then left because her mom said they had decided she was so "advanced" that private coaching was a better fit for her. By better fit I think she meant she was pissed that the gym refused to move her past the very beginning preschool level because she couldn't do anything else.
