Aw, thanks. No credit needed, just something I've learned as a parent!

Parents lvl 3A vs lvl 3P

I think achievement is the way to go for young athletes or first year athletes. My daughter competed USAG 3P last year and got a 9.65 on an event. It earned her 9th place! One meet we went to, one girl for TWO tens. For a kid scoring high 8s (which are decent routines), it can be discouraging.

    Coaches Rules for Scratching

Thanks. When my oldest daughter competed Level 5 (ten years ago) she got sick and had a fever of 101. She had rocked floor as her first event, so when we said we were scratching her the judge said she had to touch each event to remain eligible for her floor medal. Kinda stupid, but I thought...

    Coaches Rules for Scratching

Thanks. I am a coach, her coach, back in the game with a small group of Level 2 and 3s after about 10 years out of the sport. My rule book wasn't handy and the mom just emailed me about the conflict this morning. I remember the scratch rule, but since the last time I coached, Level 2s didn't...

    Coaches Rules for Scratching

I have an athlete that has a conflict with an upcoming meet. She is only a Level 2, and the meet starts at 8 am. She has to leave at 11:00 am. I am going to put her first up on our last event and hope we can get her through on time. However, if not, she will have to leave before the last...

Parents At a loss (mental block follow-up)

Yes, this. I finally decided she could either do gym on her own terms or not at all. Now, that said, there are some limits. Blatant disrespect or lack of effort won't fly. But being told to point her toes for the millionth time? I'm going to not fuss about that and let her (hopefully) find...

Parents At a loss (mental block follow-up)

My daughter is very similar. I fight the battles on some things (school work) and not so much with others. She is really pretty talented in gymnastics but was not enjoying the 12+ hours practicing as a second grader. She liked gymnastics but wanted more time to play at home. She thought the...

    WAG Level 3 bars

Are gymnasts required to stop after the glide and then chin up, hold, pullover? I don't read the text that way but kids that do it that way seem to score better than those that glide, feet hit the floor, then immediately pullover.

Parents does your gymnast have outside activities?

Does anyone else have a kid that needs a lot of time at home? My 9 year old Level 3 had to do a gym switch bc the hours were just too much for her. She's now repeating three so we could cut back on hours and only going 2 nights a week. I know it's not much compared to other kids but even now...

WAG Please help me level 2 deductions...

Thanks. That's how I've been teaching it, but both the videoed routines in this thread did it the other way so I thought I had missed something. That might be a few tenths of deductions easily cleaned up right there. Your gymnast were both adorable and their routines look great! Thanks for...

WAG Please help me level 2 deductions...

I don't have my "book" with me, so a question. On the pivot turn, is it step lock, pivot, back foot moves directly in front of the other foot, pivot? Or is it step lock, pivot, STEP (moving forward) lock, pivot?

WAG Changing Gyms Due to a Move

The coach has shown himself to be at least verbally abusive at the higher levels.
