Every time i go and try to kickover when doing a backbend kickover my leg goes the over way instead straight over and i dont know why, i have the intention of going back over straight but my leg goes the other direction ans i cant seem to get it.

First off how is your flexibility? This skill requires a certain degrees of shoulder and hip flexor flexibility to make it work.

Can you to a bridge with straight arms and shoulders over the top of your hands? If not then more shoulder and hip flexor flexibility will be needed for it to work.

When you kickover make sure you are
1. Looking at your hands
2. Keeping your arms straight and pushing your shoulders over your hands
3. Starting with your first leg to kick up - already pointing vertically to the roof. As you kick avoid dropping it.
4. Pushing your base leg straight quickly.

It’s ideal to start kickovers with your feet up on a raised surface and then work down.

Avoid doing too many kickovers. They out a lot of pressure on your back.

Always warm up and stretch well before attempting any bridge kickovers and on you limit to a few reps.

Make sure you aren’t attempting this skill until your coach deems you ready.
