Is there a huge jump in scoring between gold and platinum? It seems that when girls move from gold to platinum their scores tend to go down. Obviously not all kids but in general, it seems that first year of platinum they initially see a dip in scores. Do they deduct for more things in platinum than gold?

Well gold is like a level 3/4, platinum is like going to level 5/6. If you think of it this way most girls do struggle more on skills like clear hips, higher block on vault to be able to twist it in platinum, straight arm kips, connection on beam, salto on floor. These skills are more difficult, the flips, connections and technique overall is required more to perform these skills so it makes sense girls struggle more. This is the biggest jump in Xcel levels, platnium to diamond is much easier, after platnium it’s mostly building on skills not learning the initial flips and how to connect skills etc.

As an xcel gold, my gym, the golds usually score around 32-35, while platinums score around 30-33.

Most of our platinums this year are first years coming from a successful gold season last year (usually scoring 34-36).

Most of the I think they are having been struggling on is bars. Mostly kip, higher casts, and free hips. But some are also struggling with acro flights or series on beam, or "B" salto on 2 acro flights in each tumbling pass.
