I am hoping to get some advice on what the proper etiquette is for changing gyms. When do parents generally let their current gym know they are considering a change? When do gym owners or coaches want to know that their athletes are considering moving gyms? I thought we wouldn't talk to our current gym until we had made a decision on weather or not we would be making a change, what are others thoughts on this?

Facilities and training mates are our big consideration for moving.

It really depends on the gym. Some gyms and gym owners are very low-key and appreciate that folks come and go for various reasons. These type of gyms you can talk in advance and plan a transition. Then other gyms and gym owners take personal offense that one would dare to leave their gym. These gyms at the first sniff of movement will kick you out and keep any tuition dollars still outstanding. Either way, always a good idea to make sure you are up to date on the membership manual. And always make sure you are firm on your landing spot. In a perfect world, you are able to talk with the coach/gym owner at least a month in advance of moving. If you are in the unreasonable environment, then wait until the very closest to the next month's billing and announce you are leaving that week. you know your gym environment best.
