Just got back to the hotel after my daughters first nationals. This whole year has been one long bar struggle, with major fear issues that at one point were to severe that her coach almost made her an event specialist on the other 3 events. And of course we find out at the meet today that the dreaded bars were last (UGH!). She hit the other 3 events with 9s and just lost it on bars. She pretended she didn't care at the meet but absolutely lost it in the ride back to the hotel crying and yelling that she's quitting and can never compete again because of how embarrassing her bars were. I am so proud of her for making it this far and wish she would realize how well she did on everything else. She thinks her coach hates her and won't want to work with her anymore... I feel so bad=[. Sorry for the long post, just needed to vent.

Hope later she is able to see how much she accomplished this season, how fun the past few days were and this is one of many nationals to come :)

Dominique Moceanu, 1995 Nationals:

Rebecca Bross, 2012 Trials:

Unfortunately, bad routines happen sometimes. All these girls were amazing gymnasts and certainly not embarrassments. I hope she's able to gain perspective soon!

Congratulations to her for even making it to Nationals as a 10 year old! By the way, I bet she was probably the only 10 year old there (maybe 1 or 2 more). She did amazing on the other events it sounds like. If she is anything like my daughter she will be over it in like 5 minutes! Plus, she has this year under her belt making next year old hat for her. Life is full of disappointments and so is gymnastics I'm afraid. She will get used to celebrating the good times and digging deep on the not so good times on the road that she is on. Great job again!

Awwww, hugs to her and to you! She is awesome and will live to fight another day! I'm always awe-struck at how resilient they are in this sport. After a few days of processing, I am guessing she will be ready to pick her chin up and move on. Congratulations to her on her first appearance on the big stage, which will certainly not be her last!

Awe poor thing! It a great accomplishment to even qualify for nationals though! She may have messed up on bars but at least she didn't do something as silly as vault into the wall like I did yesterday! (Really unfortunate accident, we were warming up with handstand flat backs on a mat where there is not enough room to block or you'd hit the wall and I accidentally blocked! I'm fine though just a little embarrassed and have some sore feet )

Poor girl! I hope you have some fun activities planned for the next few days to get her mind off it. Making it to level 10 is a HUGE accomplishment in itself, making it to Nationals is just one step more. It stinks that she had a bad day while there, but it would be a shame to let it define her as a gymnast- because clearly she is a lot more than one bad bar routine!

Lots of kids fell today. Including mine, You learn from it, doesn't make it any less painful but you have to take something positive away from failure, dust yourself off,,, and keep going. Moving forward! :) (Including us coaches!).

She went to Nationals. How many didn't. Bravo to her and all

So sorry she had a bad day on bars. Like others have said, it is a win to just MAKE it there. She'll have other chances.

WOW - she made it to Nationals at 10 years old??? That in itself is beyond amazing to me!!! My daughter told me that she heard there was a 10 year old competing and I thought that she must have heard wrong! Your daughter is obviously extremely talented and motivated so I doubt that she really wants to give it all up and will come around all in good time.

By going to Nationals, she has accomplished more than most kids on this board will ever do! And the fact that she's upset means she cares and wants to be ever better. It it so hard so see our kids upset...but I bet she's an amazing warrior to have gotten this far (and so soon!) Hopefully she will learn from it and tell her that stories like this, though heartbreaking, help my DD and others realize that even the best stumble sometimes. Good luck!!! Thanks for sharing and I hope she can feel better and enjoy the positives while learning from the negatives. Sending good mojo :)

Congratulations to her. Making it to nationals is an incredible thing, and she's got so many awesome years ahead! Give her a big hug and let her know you and all of us are proud of her
