I agree with MarianLV. Vaulting at a higher table setting for training is a technique used by many vault coaches. They have a gymnast train at a higher table setting (my understanding is that this makes the gymnast jump higher/pop more) than they have the gymnast compete at. That way when they go to a meet they don't just "make it over" the table, but enter into the vault with great form and really pop off the table. When it comes to vaulting in higher levels, most gymnasts set the table at a 6 in order to allow enough height when popping off the table so as to flip the vault safely.

With all of this said, I'm not advocating that if a gymmie is vaulting at a table setting of 1 in a meet that they should train at a setting of 4! I don't think that they should ever have the vault table more than 1 setting higher for training than the setting that they compete at.

Just my opinion though, maybe a vault coach on here has a differing opinion?
