How do they pick who goes to the Olympic trials?

I think the only guaranteed spot is the person who wins trials- not P&G. It seems widely assumed that will be Simone. Last Olympics everyone thought it would be Jordyn but it ended up being Gabby.

At the 2012 Olympic Trials the top TWO spots were guaranteed a place on the Olympic Team. Therefore both Gabby & Jordyn's spots were secured following the competition.

Ok, just read a bunch of stuff in the rules and usag website.

The winner of the aa at the trials is guaranteed a spot.

On July 10, the last day of trials, five team members and three alternates/possible replacement athletes will be nominated to the us Olympic committee for approval.

Sounds like they will go in the secret back room and come out with a team to announce at trials.

They can, of course, replace any team member with a replacement athlete, pretty much at their discretion even after the team has been approved. There is a list of rules for why a team member can be replaced, but seems like quite a bit of wiggle room there.
