How to toughen up hands without ripping

Hi all, I'm just a beginner adult gymnast, but it seems like I get rips really easily - 2 rips on my first time on bars and I was only doing pullovers and cast-BHC. I've also had rips in the past just by swinging across the monkey bars at the park, so I'm wondering - how do I start toughening up my hands without them ripping to pieces first?!

Thanks in advance!

Well, it seems that you have some tender hands! I used to get a lot of rips too! But what I'd suggest is taking good care of them. When ever you have large calluses, file them off. Personally, I take a razor over them and it peels the callused skin off. Also, keep your hands moist. Dry hands rip easier! And finally, for a couple weeks, I'd soak your hands in salt water. It toughens them up, and makes them feel better.

I hope your hands get better!
