Little dd had a bit of a mental error on floor and started her routine by doing bounce bounce split jump, split jump instead of straight jump split jump. The first split jump was not as much split as the second one, but definitely not a straight jump - what would you judges do with this?! Just trying to put the score into perspective for her - it was a very nice routine otherwise, but obviously the score doesn't reflect that because of the big mistake.

Thanks in advance...

One of dd's teammates did this exact thing this past weekend. HC said it was a total of .7 deduction. .3 for added element and .4 for missing element. HC is NOT a judge- but this is what she said.

If you miss an element completely, it's double the value of the element, so it would actually be 1.1. That said, judges usually err on the side of the gymnast (especially for level 4s). They probably didn't take much.

This would qualify as "substituting" an element (deduction is the value of the element). She performed an element...it just was a different one than she was supposed to. The straight jump is worth .4, so she lost .4, plus any execution the judges may have taken (legs, feet, etc.)

The coaches said she lost about .6 but sometimes I think they are off - maybe they weren't in this case. She received an 8.95 even with the mistake. Thanks for your quick responses. And actually it was at her state meet, so there is not another day to get it right, but it is definitely a learning opportunity. She had been as high as 9.475 this season so it would have been close to her best without the mistake! Thanks again.
