Are there start values for routines in level 7, and how do they apply to routines? Was also interested in what skills are required for each routine at this level. Thanks!

All routines in level 7 start out of 10.0 as long as certain requirements are met. Different skills can be used to meet these requirements.

Vault: no flipping vaults (or Yurchenko entries?) allowed; all other vaults start out of 10. Almost everyone does a fronthandspring.

Bars: 4A skills and 2B skills, a bar change, and 2 circling skills.

Beam: 4As and 2Bs, a flight element (like a roundoff or backhandspring), a series of 2 connected acro elements, a 180 split and a full turn on 1 foot.

Floor: 4As and 2Bs, a tumbling pass with 3 elements including a backlayout, a tumbling pass with 2 front elements one of which has to be a salto, at least a full turn on one foot, a leap pass, and a 180 split.

'A's are the easiest skills, like kips, flyaways, leaps, cartwheels and backwalkovers on beam, and front tucks and back tucks and layouts on floor. Bs are the next hardest skills, like casthandstands, giants, backhandsprings and roundoffs on beam, and fulls, frontlayouts, 1 1/2 turns, and switchleaps on floor. If you're missing an A, it's .2 from your start value, a B, .4, and any other requirement .5. Hope this helps and that I didn't leave anything out!

I'll correct just a few quick things so no one gets confused.
As are worth .1 and Bs are worth .3

At L7 gymnasts are required to do 5As and 2Bs on UB, BB & FX.

Each of these events also have 4 special requirements (SR) worth .5. (If you are competing in a non-USAG league or High School, SRs could be worth less.) There is no bonus at L7. For a complete list of SRs here is the link http://www.usa-gymnastics.org/PDFs/Women/Rules/J.O.%20Code%20of%20Points/optreqchartappndx7-2009revAug2010.pdf

So, if a gymnast is missing 1 B and 1 SR her start value would be a 9.2. From that 9.2 we could deduct execution deductions, as well as overall routine deductions such as artistry and dynamics.

At most meets the judges are required to "flash" or display their start value. If no method of displaying the start value is provided we typically write the SV on the score card or sheets.
