Hi Everyone,

My DD has yet another injury. We have a travel meet next weekend, and she hurt her foot doing a BHS back layout yesterday. As I posted before, they finally gave us the go ahead to compete L7 on Wednesday, and then on Friday she got injured. Send those healing fairies so we can travel and compete.

Thanks,

sending a few faries to help. Sounds like she might be trying to push herself a little too soon. The best thing she can do is make sure she rests that foot.

Sending her tons of healing fairies. No fun to get injured right when you are just getting started with meets. :( Hope she heals fast and will be able to compete this season.

Sending some bubble wrap fairies to keep her injury free once she's back. What did she do to her foot? Thing is as much as she wants to compete, trying to push it while she's still hurt will just lead to more injuries. I know its tough, but in the long run will be worth it.

So sorry!!!!! How frustrating for her. I am hoping that she can rest it and be able to compete!

She hurt her foot doing a BHS back layout. After the BHS, she landed on the outside of her foot. It is swollen and bruised. We have been putting ice on it, and then heat, and lots of rest for it. Since it happened late Friday night, I am taking her to the doc tomorrow morning. I was hoping for a miraculous recovery, and a trip to the doc would not be necessary, but it looks like that won't happen. If it is a fracture, then it will be her third fracture since March. Sorry to vent, but I'm feeling really sad about this now. DH also has said if it is broken, she must quit. She hopes it is not broken, but understands. I am having nightmares about this. :(

Oh no:(
I hope your dh is just feeling frustrated about the situation and isn't serious about not letting dd return to gym after an injury. It is such a sad way to go out if it isn't a very serious injury - especially if she does not want to leave gymnastics.

Sending some good luck faeries for the dr. appointment for today. And some taking deep breath faeries for mom and for dad.

Let us know how things are going.

Sending lots of positive vibes your way!! I hope it isn't broken. It would so sad for her to have to leave the sport due to an injury, particularly since she doesn't want to. I hope your DH changes his mind about that if it is a fracture.

I took her to the doctor, who said it is probably not a fracture, but to get X-rays anyways. We did and are still waiting on the results.

Super bad news! It is a fracture. I've been crying, but my DD has been the stable one. Tomorrow we see the specialist and start treatment. DH is not making her quit, but if treatment will last 8 weeks or so, then he probably will. I'm so sad. :(

:( I am so sorry!! How frustrating and disappointing for your girl. Sending healing vibes her way! Hopefully, your husband will change his mind.

Sorry to hear that. And could we share the healing faeries? Dr. put dd in a boot yesterday for a stress fracture. 4-6 weeks rest. Her first meet of the season was this Saturday. She will miss most, if not all, of the season. Her coaches were not happy, especially since she has not been letting them know how much her foot has been hurting her, but training with the pain. UGH. Why now? I'm close to tears myself when I think about it, but dd has a positive outlook - which is good.

MamaofEnS and Gymjoy,

Sending both of your daughters lots of healing energy. It is so unfair when they are injured during their season. Hope that they can stay positive and that they heal very quickly.

As to the DH and wanting her to quit, I can totally see how he would say that. I have felt that way with my DD. When she hurt her wrist I was fine, but when she hurt her back and they were ruling out a stress fracture of her lower back, I was ready to pull her. Even my DH who is usually the one who is easy going about stuff like that was saying she should maybe quit. Hard to see our kids hurt and it is a dangerous sport. I think our first instinct is to protect, and the easiest way of doing that is to pull them out. Not the best idea usually, but I think it crosses most parents minds when they are hurt, especially if it is one injury after another.

Hugs to you both.

So, my DD is in a walking cast, which of course she doesn't like. I am so proud of her, though. She insisted on doing all the talking with the doctor, and convinced her to shorten the length of time in the cast by one week. Her cast is glow in the dark, pretty cool, and she is coping so much better than me. All her teammates are going to Vegas right now, but not us. What really surprises me is that the coaches have not said one word to me. Not "I'm sorry this happened," or "will you still come to Vegas?", just nothing. What is that?

I think some coaches go into denial when girls get hurt and your poor dd has had more than her fair share of injuries. They really should have called or emailed to let her know they were thinking of her and talked about getting her back in the gym.
Then again, the coaches may feel some of this is their fault since she's had multiple injuries and be reluctant to talk with you.

Either way, they should be adults and convey how bad they feel.

I would have expected some follow up from the coaches, too. Can't imagine not having a phone call, email, text, something. :( Sorry. Great that your daughter talked to the doctors about her injury and her goals. Hopefully she will heal fully and quickly.
