Kids are mini versions of you and the other parent in some mixture. Those tendencies you see in your child exist in one of you (most likely). What the child lacks is experience and maturity to filter. Gently train them in managing their traits such that they embrace them when they're useful and can restrain them when they're not appropriate or helpful. Odds are, one of you experiences the same thing and you have 30-40 years of experience to share.

That's easier said than done, but it's the guiding principle we use. I spent many years thinking certain aspects of myself were negative traits until I read a book that really opened my eyes on how they were actually an advantage.
