My dd also went straight to contacts at age 6. She has always worn the Focus dailies that you throw away everyday. She's 12 now, and I'm sure she could probably wear the extended wear like I do now, but she's never had on ounce of trouble with them so I don't see the reason to change. She wears her glasses occasionally, but never at the gym, I'm like Granny Smith and afraid of what might happen. She forgot her contacts one day when she wore her glasses to school and had to try to do gym with them, and it was not a good experience. She could never go without contacts or glasses though because her eyesight is horrible.
 
We made the jump to contacts just as Kipper turned 9. She was anxious at first, and their were some frustrated tears the first few days...but now she wishes she had done it sooner!
