I have recommended it to a couple people, but I don't think they have joined.

    WAG Hairstyles for Short Hair

My daughters have similar length hair. For meets, I do their hair immediately after a shower. I use a product called Demented to slick their hair into a bun. I also use several barrettes to hold the shorter hairs in place. We use a firm hold hairspray to spray the hair when wet and then again...

    WAG Young kids & Splits

What helped my daughters (ages 8 and 10) was something a YouTube video called "pigeon pose" which is like a split but the front knee is bent so they are sitting on that foot. They stretched both sides equally to help stretch their hip flexor. My girls aren't naturally flexy and gain strength...

WAG Serious training... curious, how much does it cost

We live in a lower cost of living area, and I have 2 daughters competing Amerikids 3 (4 hours per week)plus 1 daughter in rec, and our total monthly cost is just under $350. Our gym does a great job of keeping things low cost when possible.

    WAG I'm annoyed

Mine too. She is long in the torso so I would be surprised if she is above the 25%ile in height.

    WAG Kellogg's Tour

I would recommend arriving early and buying souvenirs before hand. We were almost an hour early, went straight to the souvenir line, and got to our seats about 5 minutes before the show started.

Parents What to expect first class

It's going to vary some depending on your gym, but our preschool gym has appropriately sized bars and floor beams, a trampoline, monkey bars, and a slide. I would expect that the coach would rotate through a couple circuits with a few stations each, do a little stretching, and maybe introduce a...

WAG Beyond the Scores - opinions

Our state meet used it last year, and it worked really well. My only complaint was that we didn't have advance notice that the system would be in use, and the venue was a metal building so poor cellular service. Once I was able to tap into the WiFi network, it worked fine.

Parents I wish we could schedule this for parents

One thing I love about our gym is the noticeable absence of CGM's. I am probably one of the crazier looking mom's because of my awareness of what comes next because of this site, but as an educator, I like knowing what comes next.

    Team finals lineup?

Which vault will Simone do in team finals? Execution scores were equal on both last night. The Cheng has a higher start value, but the Amanar seems to carry some prestige.

Parents Deciding if my daughter should compete

A few questions based on what I've seen in my gym where we have had kindergarten and first graders compete level 2. Would she be competing in the fall or spring? Our gym competes January through April so the girls have adjusted to the school schedule already. What skills is she struggling...

Parents Does your child have a 'fallback' sport?

My daughter has played softball with a rec team, but chose to skip the tournament that was the same week as her team camp. She also has enjoyed basketball and participates in 4-H shooting sports (archery and BB gun). Her school requires participation in middle school sports (practice is...

WAG Crowdsourcing: gyms and social media

    1. Does your gym have a Facebook/Instagram page and do you follow it? Our gym has a Facebook page, a public group for team parents, and a private group for the preschool gym. I follow the page and am part of both groups. I am also friends with a few of the coaches. 2. If yes, approx how...

    WAG long commutes

We drive about 70 miles which takes between 75 and 80 minutes depending on traffic and road construction. My daughters on team are 9 and 7 and have just finished a level 2 competitive season. They practice 2 times a week for 90 minutes, and my 5 year old in rec practices one of the same...

Parents Uptraing... what is learned at what level

Our gym doesn't do much uptraining at the lower levels. Level 2s do some kip drills and train standing BHS and RO-BHS, but most of the season is spent ensuring that the current level skills and routines are solid. Uptraining begins much more intensively after state gymnastics.

Parents Proud mom - First meet with 4 hit routines

I am incredibly proud of my 9 year old L2 daughter. This weekend she had her first meet where she hit all of her skills in her routines with no falls or major errors. She finally showed her coaches that she can do everything in a meet that she can do in a practice which is huge as we are...

    WAG Mill circle

My oldest daughter really struggled with them for a while. She started to get them consistently in practice about 9 months ago after working on them for nearly a year. She never made one in competition. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when she had been struggling again and her coaches...
