WAG Sand Dollar (Orlando) or Chicago Meet

I vote for Courtney Kupets meet. Savannah is beautiful that time of the year and the St. Patricks's Day festivities start that weekend with special events throughout the city. It is not the weekend of the big parade but the weekend before which still has lots going on. You can walk to most...

    Parents Booster Club Bullying

As a past president of a GA Booster Club, Sharks post above is correct in regards to the IRS. What is upsetting is the gym is a non-profit and can lose its status as well. It sounds like an upstart gym that is not fully funded or stafffed or stocked with equipment. Although the fees seem...

2011-2012 USAG Rules and Policies Update on Cell Phones

I went back and re-read the passages again (copied below). It doesn't specify paretns and spectators only "participants" on the field of play. SO it looks as if a coach/judge/participant can go off of the floor to make a call or text. "The use of cell phones (for talking, texting, etc.) or...

2011-2012 USAG Rules and Policies Update on Cell Phones

I agree cher. I think it is a consideration to other parents/spectators. There have been many meets where I have had to hear one way phone conversations in great detail while trying to video tape or just enjoy the gymnasts.

2011-2012 USAG Rules and Policies Update on Cell Phones

I just read the 2011-2012 USAG Rules and Policies and the following was a change that was made in every sub category:, Coaches, Judges, Athletes and Parents/Spectators. No cell phone or electronic communication device is allowed on the field during the meet with the exception of Walkie...

    practice with different coaches?

One other thing to note is that as the higher you go the more familiar the coach and gymnast become with one another. Their spotting techniques as well as the established trust they have is important for training. Unlike other sports that bring in "specialists", gymnastics is dangerous, and...

There's a new gym in town...

New gyms can be great. No pre-determined stars, exicted parents, excited coaches, excited kids. It is sort of moving into a brand new housing subdivision. Everyone is trying to make it a great community. With that being said, it takes a few years for a new gym to break even which sometimes...

    Parents Pricey Competition Leos

Not sure if you are compulsory or optional. Our optional leos which we use only 1 year (due to older girls sweating and colors running) will be $230. In addition, it will be another 110 for warm-up suits, we use 2 years and 45 for team bag which we use for 2 years. Compulsory leos run about...

    Skipping Level 7?

So I wondered about now skipping L7. I've also heard/read that many gyms try to get through compulsories quickly because it is the skills in optionals that is "more important". Most gyms that rush through compulsories to get to optionals have a harder time because the good thing about...

    Skipping Level 7?

Our gym skips level 7. My daughter went from level 6 to level 8, then on to 9. Once you get to optionals there is a wide variations of skill levels, start values and bonus points. For example, a front handspring vault Starts at a 10.0 in level 7, but drops to a 9.2 or 9.4 in level 8. A girl...

Parents What does pre-team mean exactly?

I am like you when my dd started, but 10 years later I understand so much. Pre-team is a great opportunity for your daughter to see if she is really interested in gymnastics or not. It is getting them ready for team skill -wise, but also mentally. Bumping up hours means more time, if your...
