Hi there,
My DD is coming back from a broken foot and will compete bars this weekend and the following weekend (final meet before states) probably beam, possibly floor as well. Does anyone know if we can petition for event specialist at states on 3 events? What happens if she only ends up competing bars and we asked for bars, beam, and floor? Can she still just do bars at states? Coach is looking into this, but thought I'd see if anyone knows. This is for Level 8, region 1.

Thanks!

From the NorCal web page:

  • Level 8's, 9's and 10's can qualify as event specialists to State with a score of 8.50 or higher from a meet where 3 or fewer events were competed.”
Looks to me like any event she scores over an 8.5 on she can register as an event specialist. Doesn’t seem like any sort of petition is even required.

From what our HC says, it just has to be disclosed before the meet. I.e. you cannot go to the meet, simply scratch vault for instance and count the other scores, you have to register the gymnast as a specialist beforehand. Not at initial registration but before the meet.

Wow! R8 it's a 9.0 to go to state meet as a specialist and 9.3 for regionals for L9/10; There are no specialist in either meet for L6-8 in our region.

Region 1 is 9.0 at state meet for event specialists to Regionals for 9/10. No specialists at Regionals for any other level.

State meet event specialists for level 8 and below would be decided on the state level, and can vary by state within a region. I think some states in Region 8 do allow event specialists at their state meet at level 8, with scores of 8.5 or 9.0.
