I know that in level 5 you have two judges per event. Do they take the average of the two scores or the highest of the two scores?? I have to do tabulations for our next meet and I was just wondering.............

Thanks!!

They do an average of the 2 scores. Vault is given the higher score of the 2 vaults. At meets that I've worked as a scorer, the head judge on each event does the averaging, circles the score and then hands it to the parent volunteer. I've never had to average their scores although our directions say we should offer if needed. Usually the judges are so fast, they don't need us doing it.

I did the computer entry of the scores at our home meet a few years ago. I entered both judges scores and the program automatically calculates the average and I had to check that it matches the judges handwritten average. If it does not (aka they made an error in averaging) I had to take it to them to sign off on.

Hope that helps.
