MRI's in the UK and here are not something we get within weeks, it usually takes many months unless the issue is considered urgent. Back pain is rarley considered urgent.

@Scotsgirl do take her to the doctor, they can do oblique xrays to rule out fractures etc. An xray would also show slippage etc. Physio is a great thing for most back pain. Please have her stop any arching at all until you can get her looked at, tell her that "trying" things to see if they hurt is a bad idea for now.
This is so true about having to wait for appointments , I have made her promise not to try anything with her back for now , my husband suggested nurofen before gym tomorrow but I said no as this will only mask the injury so her coach might think she is ok , so no meds before gym as I want them to see how painful it is , Im sure they know this already but they will be more inclined to ger her physio .

Other things D was told to do: Ice after practice. We did ice for 2o minutes every 4 hours during the worst of the pain. We also have TENS unit that he used 2 times a day. Once we found out it was muscular, we went to heat and ice alternating, and he got some stretches from the PT.

Good luck!

push for a pediatric physio appointment as well. They are usually attached to your local hospital, again it takes time but get the referral going. Also stress to the doctor that you want some specialist investigations, do not be fobbed off.

Agree with others....ortho (pref sports/pediatric) asap.

MRI asap.

NO back walkover/back arching until you have MRI results!

Having been down the stress fracture route, better safe than sorry.

I would ice/ibuprofen during the day but not to mask pain during practice.

Thanks I will say this when I go really appreciate the advice .

when pink had some knee pain we had to wait for a pediatric referral, so we ended up going privately ( our local physio has kept my hubbie walking for the last 30 years) - he is also a sports physio ( has worked for the All Blacks and Scottish RFU) and one of his staff is a gym mum so they understand. Had to pay but got in the next day, GP referral took 5 weeks.

was this expensive to go private ? Im sure hubby has a thing for work , not sure if it is just for himself though , the gym has a sports physio so hoping this helps but I want to know the route cause of it so an appointment will be made .

I'd see the gym sports physio at first point of call. Or find a private sports physio. See what they say. Then at least when you turn up at the GP you can say, we went to see they physio, who said we should see you about a referral to x,y,z. Then you have another Health Care professional backing you up so you're less worried about being dismissed as a CGM.

With back pain in a child your DD's age I'd take it very seriously. If she goes to gym conditioning only, maybe bars/vault, until it totally resolves. No walkovers, bridges, BHS. 6m/a year dealing with it now is far better than pushing through and her being out completely at 12.

I'd also think seriously about whether elite track is right for her. It's hard, it's tough, there's little allowance for injury time. If she's injuring already she's either doing too many hours for her age, or her body might just be susceptible to injury.

We took dd to the doctors today , he was surprisingly very good about it , he did say to see the sports physio first and no back skills for now , if this continues after rest then he will refer her for an mri scan . I have my eyes wide open to the elite track situation and let dd lead the way within reason , she has not shown any signs of not enjoying gym so will just take things how they come , to be honest if the back pain does not go away she will need to go along another track and that is totally fine as her health and happiness is all I care about in life . Thanks
