Our DS has been wanting rings at home to work on his strength. I found a couple of sets online that seem to be the correct width. My question is in regards to how high they should be hung? We also have little ones to consider. Would a garage be preferable to outside? I am assuming so due to the weathering of the rings themselves.
We are at the beginning of this journey so I am anticipating these to be used for years to come.
 
I have no idea. GOod luck. Our coach doesn't allow stuff like that at home so we have never looked into it.
 
I actually hadn't even thought of rings until a coach mentioned having them at home for strength. Thank you for replying though. I've been lurking for so long it's strange to actually be asking the question.
 
That's cool. Make sure you buy a good mat to go under them. Like an 8-incher or more. Even doing strength they can fall off. We did parallettes and a pull up bar to work on strength.

I would think if you are just working strength, no swings, they wouldn't have to be that high. But maybe high enough that he can't touch the ground when he is on them.
 
That was my line of thought also. We do have parallettes and a pull-up bar. He uses those daily. Swinging would definitely be off limits. The kids are pretty good about listening. These would be for muscle ups, holds, etc.
I have very little knowledge of boys gym, but I'm assuming a muscle up on a bar is quite different than on rings.
 
Find a contractor or builder that can tell you where and how to attach them to the highest point possible. There needs to be a bit of distance between the rings and attachment so the performer has to keep the rings from spreading, rather than the geometry of how they're set up. I'd say a minimum cable/strap length of 8 feet or spacing the attachment points 2,5 inches farther apart for each foot less than the eight foot length. So a 4 foot strap length would have the attachment point 10 inches farther apart than they would be at feet.

If you don't have the height for it there's another way of doing it, but it's a harder description to provide, and for you to follow. Let me know if you need the 2nd alternative.
 
You can get rings from tons of places and hang them many places...garage or basement are good places.

It seems as we do have the height in the garage.
 
Just make sure you have something soft below them.
 
There are a lot ofnice wooden FIG eings on the market thanks to CrossFit. I have a pair of Rogues, Fringesport, and GymnasticBodies around. I started on synthetic rings but wood is best and get Fig sized rings versus oversized 1.25" rings.

If you get plastic ones, use athletic tape. You can generally find chalk at your hardware store in half spheres or blocks. Dont break it up unless you want a mess.

None of these ring sets are appropriate really for ring swings. With little ones around, hang them up when not in use or hitch them toohigh to grab.

An old futon can work alright as protection.

For low ring setups, you generally only need a mat if you are gonna do handstand work. Then again floor surfaces in gym are generally foam bonded carpet vs concrete or carpet over wood.
