Can anyone tell me roughly how many hours per week a gymnast should train? Levels 1 through to 6. My daughters gym doesn't seem to do many hours so was wondering what other gyms do. Thanks

At my gym the level 1 gymnast probably practice 2 hours a week, level 2 gymnast 3 hours a week, level 3 gymnast 5 hours a week, level 4 gymnast goes 8 hours a week, level 5 and 6 gymnasts go 12 hours a week.

My youngest dd has just moved up from rec and goes once a week for 2.5 hours at the moment.
My oldest dd is in a disability development group and goes twice a week for 1.5 hours each time.

I think DD started out old L4 at about 9 hours. She went over 20 during the summer and is back to 12.5 now at new L4. Looking at the winter/spring schedule, they're allowing the exact same # of hours for new L5. Optionals are in the neighborhood of 16 or so.

Back when I was in compulsories the level 4s and 5s trained 12hrs a week and level 6s trained 16hrs a week.

Level 1- 6 hrs
Level2- 9hrs
Level 3- 12 hrs
Level 4&5- 16 hrs
Level 6- 20 hrs

Plus an optional tumbling clinic on Saturdays for an hour

DD's is L3 and trains 12.5 hrs a week. Their preteam trains 9 hrs a week. I *think* L4 trains the same as L3 and optionals train 16 hrs a week. The previous gym we were at trained L2 9 hrs a week, L3 12 hrs a week, L4/5 I think was 16 hrs a week.

Pre-Team: 3-6 hours
Level 3: 9 hours
Level 4: 12-15 hours (my daughter is 15)
Level 5: 15-18 hours

I'm not totally sure after that...

One thing I've learned from CB is gyms vary quite a bit with hours trained.
One thing I've learned from personal observation is less hours, utilized wisely and well, can still turn out well-trained gymnasts. I appreciate our gym doesn't want to burn kids out, but kids with talent and desire still do very well in meets as our gym's system works.

Our L3s and L4s train separately, but each 7.5 hours/week plus an hour of dance.

L5s add one additional 2.5 hr practice on top of that.

Optionals start at 15 hrs a week plus dance and go up to right around 20-22 hrs per week.

One girl at my gym trains 40hrs a week... She is level 8 WAG and level 7 acro... Still I think it is a bit crazy

My son is on two different teams...one artistic and one power team...artistic is 9 hours and power team is 5-6 hours...we also have many pieces of equipment at home which allows him to practice another 3-5 hours during the week

our gym has rec classes 1 hr a week
hot shots preteam 1 hr 2 days a week
preteam advanced 2 hr 2 days a week
jo pre team 2hr 3 days a week
l3 3 hours 3 days a week
excel bronze and silver 2 hours 3 days a week. and so.on lol
