So I have a double tuck and a double pike in my routine. My coach would like me to do it without a landing mat but it's my understanding that it is allowed. Am I right? Can I use a 4 in mat for landing on floor for my double backs? I've seen it before. Also would you let your gymnast use one?

And if this is allowed, why is a beam pad or rug not allowed?

a landing mat can be used without a deduction. a beam diaper can not be used without a deduction. those are the rules. whether or not your coach wants the landing mat used or not is at his discretion so you must discuss the whys and whynots with him or her.:)

Double back tucked or piked are pretty decent skills, and are usually taught by fairly good coaches to capable gymnasts.......The way I see it, your coach has pretty much shown the ability to do the job on the coaching side....as have you on the gymnast side.
