Coming from the UK I am clueless. But here university/college is becoming increasingly expensive. So it's at the back of my mind that college overseas might be an option one day for DD. Plus I think it would be a really great experience, living in the USA for a few years :).

So; What makes an athlete eligible or ineligible for NCAA? DD is 9, and now at a point where she is eligible for grants toward her training. Not much, but it would pay a few months fees. In the UK there is quite a few grants around for promising athletes, starting with local authority, lottery funding etc. Which normally is accepted with no issue as we don't have college scholarships to worry about.

Also her coach has been approached by an agency to provide kids for TV ads and the like. Not necessarily gymnastics, but maybe flipping into a pool or on a home trampoline- where is the line drawn?

Some private schools here work with clubs- reduced fees, special scheduling so a child can train elite, does that count?

Any particular pro's/cons? I know reading on here it's a goal for many kids but in some ways I'd rather her go to college when she's done with high level training, and have a normal life.

:lol:

The one she would be eligible for now is awarded by our LA- I was browsing the council website and came across it. There's a few kids I know from other sports who have it, and you also get free access to any sporting facility in the region (so swimming, running track, weights gym etc).

DD is now nationally ranked (not gymnastics) and hoping to try out for the GB talent squad later this year so she should be eligible.

There are also various grants for clubs- new equipment, extension of classes etc.

I googled for "wiltshire sports funding" and "Devon sports funding" and got numerous hits;
