If he still feels guitly, we have a rat cage that needs to be cleaned...

Scary stuff... trips to the ER and being admitted and such... glad it seems like it's probably O.K. I think all of us with daredevil children have learned a lesson here...

And please be diligent about a follow up xray. I broke my ankle and was diagnosed as a severe sprain. Several months later and I still wasn't able to walk smoothly. MRI showed two fractures that xrays missed. I will never walk without pain again because I didn't listen to the pain signals my body sent me. I know you don't want that for your little gymmie.

Oh wow, thank you for sharing that. So sorry that happened to you. We are following up with the ped probably on Wed or Thurs and we will go from there. If she is not improving, we will get a follow up xray for sure.

Here is a pic of my little sweetie last night....she was such a trooper through the bloodwork and xray

Aw, isn't she adorable. I am very glad that you have had it all checked out properly and that they will follow up if she doesn't improve. It sounds like she got great care and you and Dad can rest easier.

If I had known it was rodent cage cleaning night I would've saved him my hamster one, plus my dog left a treat on the floor whilst I was out, he could;ve fixed that up too!!! LOL..

Needless to say we can all learn from his mistake, even harmless stuff can be quite devastating for a little kid! Keep the gym in the gym!

Oh dear. Poor baby. I wonder if the fever wasn't just from being so worked up over the pain :( Seems possible anyway.

I hope the healing process goes well, make sure she gets plenty of sleep and calcium/vitamins.

Awww poor sweetie! A lesson learned the hard way for sure but something all little gymies probably go thru. Mine decided to practice pullovers on playground metal bars when she was 6. Her "prize" was a rip on her palm the size of silver dollar. It hurt and took forever to heal and she couldn't do bars til it healed. That alone was punishment for her. We have a no gymnastics outside of gym rule now. Can I prevent her from doing the occasional back handspring after school or on the perfectly squishy manicured baseball field all the time, no, but now that she is older and in the gym about 16hrs/week that is plenty of time to work on those things. Tell her handstands in safe areas are fine and she can practice splits and stretches for hours, but no more anything off the couch.

I have a guinea pig and I think your hubby would get off too easy on that, they are not so bad to clean. I often call it the pooh pig though because she does make a mess and eats 24/7. Mary's rat cage sounds like fun though...NOT! ((HUGS)) to all of you and hope she's on the mend and back in gym soon!

lay low for 10 days. it means the fractures, if they are there, are small. if it's still bothering her in 10 days please go back.:)

awww poor baby. she really is adorable though. i hope everything heals and it is just bruising no fracture. i agree that you should definetly get the follow up xrays. I hope this is a lesson learned and she wont be doing gym in the house again. as for hubby............. we have a pretty nasty bird cage over here :p

What an adorable picture, but I can't believe she had to stay overnight in the hospital!! Poor thing!! I'm glad they think it is just bruising, but let us know what the follow up shows...poor kid!! Sending her{{hugs}} and a {{virtual balloon bunch}}!!!! :fluffy:

I don't trust ERs 100%, especially with kids, unless you are going to a Children's Hospital. Last yr my dd did a tumbling pass rolled her ankle severely and ended up breaking her 5th metatarsal (tendon only stretches so far before it will break the bone - turns out it was a Jones' fracture.) Immediately got a call from the gym, I went in and got her. We went to the ER, they did x-rays and said they couldn't find a break, wrapped her foot in an ace bandage and told me to follow up with an Ortho. The next day we went to an Pediatric Ortho, who basically laughed and said it is clearly broke, I don't know how they missed it and immediately casted it. This is just my experience. If your gut continues to tell you there is something wrong, then make sure you do follow up!

Awww-what a cute little thing!!! What a little trooper! Definitely a lesson learned. As for hubby's punishment--we have no little critters here to clean up after, but my ds is like a mini tornado when it comes to making messes. We could have hubby follow him around for a day and clean up behind him! I am sure hubby wouldn't last more than a few hours!!! LOL

I have to say too I don't trust the ER Dr's either most are newer DR's in my area as there are alot of teaching hospitals around and you usually get some intern. Heck I've been to the ER and the "DR' newbie couldn't even draw blood.

I always do a follow up visit with my kids DR's within a day or two to verify what was said by the ER. Like you said unless it's a childrens hospital most ER's don't have pediatric doctors on duty in the ER and treating a child can be very different than treating an adult. I would make a trip to a Pediatric DR or specialist just to check things out and I don't think I would wait 10 days either. I would only wait maybe 3 days and if it hasn't improved off I would go.

I hope they sent you home with at least some sort of pain control plan.

What a cutie! Hopefully she is only bruised! I agree with everyone else that follow up x-rays would be a good idea! If only for your peace of mind! When my DD broke her foot it took 3 sets of x-rays about 2 weeks apart to show the break. It was not until there was new bone growth that it showed! It can be tricky to see breaks on the growth plates...from my experience.

Things are going pretty well today...she has been able to walk some and was even wanting to play. I still made her get plenty of rest though!

We orginally went to the ER near our house, but when they admitted her, they sent her to the Children's Hospital across town, so she did see a couple of different pediatric docs and a pediatric ortho there. I am kind of glad they did admit her, b/c I know she got to see better docs that way.

The bruising is changing colors, getting less red and more dark, so I think that is a sign of healing. We are following up with the ped tomorrow, hoping that goes well!

DH is going to stay pretty busy with all of these animal cages! LOL =)

I just wanted to add to the comments about following up with a Ped Ortho. I have several children that have had numerous fractures that were undetectable just because they were kids and growth plates involved, ect..but one time my son fell off monkey bars at school (dang those bars, even for boys) and we brought him to my job (walk in medical) and they found one fracture, but knowing kids/bones I immediately took him to Ped Ortho and he had TWO fractures! Ped Ortho's are trainned to pick up even the little things. My daughter fractured her heel and not only was the fracture more obvious to the Ped Ortho, but he also discovered she had small cysts in her heel which could have caused an area of weakness at the fracture site and could have been the cause of it to begin with.
