Hey! I have high school gymnastics tryouts in a few days and I need help with my roundoff bhs back tuck!!

I have my roundoff bhs back tuck consistently on a spring floor but we have to throw it on a dead mat for tryouts.

Does anyone have any tips to get more power and set up?

I think you should practice the individual skills from standing:

  • roundoff from a single step or kneeling lunge
  • standing back handspring (connect multiple of you can)
  • standing back tuck (from a raised surface if you don’t have it on floor yet)

Practicing these skills in isolation from a standing position will force you to use just your muscles without the help of springs or running speed.
