Yes, and I'm super glad that there are places like this to discuss about the challenges in gymnastics and coaching. I've never been super natural at coaching teenagers, I have always found the ages 12-18 very challenging and I'm definitely out of my comfort zone coaching girls that age. BUT, I have to say that now that I have my second round of teenagers in my hands at 25 years old, I'm definitely doing better than when I had my first group of teens when I was just 20 myself. Now I try to give them space but also be there and ask tons of questions about their families, school, friends, TV, music whenever possible. I have learnt through hard way that I have to earn their respect and trust. With little ones it may only take one practice, but it definitely takes longer the older the girls get.
