So Frustrated! Am I getting the "run around"?

JBS, that sounds like the gyms are allied against the parents.

Parents that just walk out into the gym....ahhhh!

Do you have a way for parents to communicate with you? At my daughter's gym, they do not answer email, and you can't get them on the phone. You can leave a message and they will usually get back to you in 24 hours, but sometimes you have something to tell a coach about an injury, or an upset...

That's a good idea. maybe we can send her on tues-thurs just for conditioning. Thanks!

    DD's heart breaking.....

These little things really hurt the little ones, and the not so little ones. When my dd got an injury and couldn't compete level 6, all of her teammates got lockers except for her. She couldn't get one until she competed here first level 6 meet, was the gym's rule. She cried for 3 days on and...

DD following doctor's orders, but coaches want her to be "more aggressive"

My daughter suffered an injury to her knee in the early spring, and was out of gymnastics since March. After a full summer of PT, she was cleared by the doctor to go back on a modified schedule. Instead of going every day for three and a half hours, she goes M-W-Fr. she started out just going...

Should we get a beam at home?

We have had a beam for three years. Of our 3 daughters, only one is a gymnast. All of the girls spend an equal amount of time on the beam, about o minutes a day for the last two years and eleven months. However, when friends come over, they often use the beam!

    Interesting Read

That is an amazing story and certainly puts my dd's little mishaps in their place! she has had nothing, compared to this kid! It also makes me embarrassed at how seriously I sometimes take the 3 month break she has to take to recover..it's not so earthshattering!

Parents Dance Moms - Slightly Off Topic

I love this train wreck and can't wait for the next episode. I would never have known about the show if I hadn't read about it here. Just another reason to love Chalk Bucket.

Parents When is it time to call it quits?

My daughter has been injured for the last 4 months, and I have to admit that while I of course want her to be all better, I love having her home those 4 hours a day, and I do not miss the commute at all. So I know what you mean that this sport is a heavy commitment of time away from family for...

Parents Good News/Bad News and Camp Insurance

If you are confused by the doctors treatment plan, you should get a second opinion. We once went for a second opinion and it was so different from diagnosis #1 that we needed to go to a third doctor as a tie-breaker.

Advice for gymnast from small gym

My 12 year old has had three over use type injuries. Anything you can do to reduce the number of hard landings will be of lasting benefit to their joints.

Parents Somewhat OT, but an interesting parenting article...

That was a great article. I look back at all the meets that my daughter didn't medal in, and at least she's building her resilience! I'm going to send that article to some friends and bookmarking it as well.

    So Disappointed with Anna's Gym.

My daughter did level 4 as a fourth grader- 9-10 years old! Three other level 4s were third graders, and two were fifth graders. All of the parents were initially appalled at ourselves for having the kids at practice until 9:30pm.

    Parents Scoliosis Diagnosis for DD

I will second gym law mom--get an orthopedist to keep an eye on it. it may turn out to be so minimal that it hardly matters, but your daughter could benefit from the orthopedists care. My 12 year old dd has mild scoliosis. She had some back pain, and had pt, which helped, and then the...

    I'm New Here!

My daughter is similar in so many ways--didn't set foot in a gym until 3rd grade, didn't join the team until 4th, because she was nervous about activities. Now she is a confident, though reserved, sixth grader. I think gymnastics helps because they practice the same skills for hours, and then...

events you thought you/your dd would be good at vs. events you're actually good at

All my life, whenever I watched gymnastics, mostly during the olympics, I never paid attention to vaulting. I always found it boring. So you know what's coming--my darling daughter is a fantastic vaulter, and it is now, of course, my favorite event to watch. She also loves the floor, then bars...

    Communication at your gym

At the gym my daughter left, when I asked about my daughter's progress, the head coach would tell me, by name and in detail, about teamates with her talent who went on and did well at higher levels, and teamates who crashed and quit. Never could talk about my daughter, though. At my current gym...

    Parents Anyone get Summer Schedules?

My dd will go M-Th 2:00-5:30, which works for me, and doesn't conflict with the other kids' schedules. She doesn't like it because all of her friends are at the pool at that time. Next summer, barring injury and other unforseen circumstances, she will get the 8:00- 11:30 spot, so she can enjoy...

    Camps!

My 12 year old dd is going to IGC for her 3rd year. She loves the counselors and coaches. She was recovering from an injury each time she went, and the trainers there were excellent in keeping her in good shape. Many people criticize IGC for too much spotting, but my daughter never mentioned it.
