Mine has done a few each season, the were mainly for cleanup crew so to speak, and to fix some bad habits. She has got a lot out of them, so it was money well spent.

DD has had 3-4 privates in her 5 years of competing. Once for a mental block on vault and the other few to clean up bar skills before meet season.

My DD has had a few privates, to get individual attention in a couple of problem areas. Our gym allows them but the main philosophy is that the gymnasts should get all their training done during practice and privates only be used for specific issues if necessary. I think all privates are parent/gymnast initiated, never solicited by coaches.

When we moved gyms a year ago, Puma Jr did an hour a week for almost six months since she had some pretty major form issues. They were worth every penny.

We've done them and don't regret them. Sometimes some one on one attention is what it takes. But we are very frugal so we only do them if it really seems important. We are doing one soon to help my DD fine tune her level 5 routines for an upcoming score our meet. She's been working level 6 so this summer so her level 5 floor needs some dusting off.

Same here although she is currently out awaiting a specialist orthodox appointment can't get in until September and she has been out since the end of May!

Our head coach says that if a team girl needs privates then they (the coaches) aren't doing their job. That said, dd has done a few for specific skills, primarily before coming to this current gym.
Ours is like this as well. My daughter is a L9 and has never had a private. Gym is very successful overall.

My little guy had his first one (he just finished his 3rd year on team) yesterday. He loved the individual attention, and was able to tweak a few things and master a skill he had "lost" recently.

My DDs each had one that they won as a prize, and my ODD had a couple that were free to help her get a skill she wanted to get before we moved (this was her first gym). Privates were fairly uncommon there.

Next couple gyms didn't offer privates. Then she had regular privates for a few months at her last gym. They were supposed to help her pick back up after a long summer camp (she missed three weeks of gym, two of which would've been her team camps). I don't think they did much long term good. They also had semi-privates for choreography.

New gym is in a weird situation. They are renting space in another gym so they can't do privates. Not sure what'll be the policy when they're (finally!!) in their own building. I know that DD is missing four weeks of gym this summer and her coach wasn't nearly as upset as her last coach, last summer. He said she'll be fine.

YDDs gym seems to do lots of privates, but you can't just ask. They have to want to do them. We've tried a few times for her and have been turned down. Not sure their selection criteria.

My DDs do semi-priavtes. Some are to work on routines before a meet and some are to work on higher level skills. My DDs enjoy them. They are pretty common at our gym, but not required. Some girls do them and some do not. The coaches are willing to do them, but never really recommend them or make anyone feel they are necessary. My YDD would live in the the gym if allowed......LOL!

My daughter is doing weekly semi-privates at the moment, but we are in a bit of a different situation. We recently switched gyms from one that competes winter (beginning in January) to one that competes fall (beginning early September). My daughter was on track to compete level 3 this winter, but due to the gym change, will compete 4 months earlier, and is doing some weekly privates to get her ready in time. Had we not switched gyms (and competition seasons) this would not have been necessary.

My DD has had her fair share.
Many times for skills when it was coming close to "decision time", and her stress about it would keep her from being successful in the big group.
But more than not, they've been used for mental blocks - whether it be a skill, or extreme lack of confidence, with a specific coach that would do wonders for her. I used to say I'd pay for the hour even if they just met at Denny's and talked about fears and mental techniques.

Thankfully our coaches are very open to privates. We have a very large gym and the one-on-one time is great for fine-tuning.

My DD has them occasionally, as needed.

Compulsory privates are most common. Very rarely do the optionals have them. Of course their group is much, much smaller.
